I got a male bmc that i CAN NOT put weight on, i'v tried feeding him more and he still wont gain weight. he aint very active, just stays on his chain and lays around until its time to hunt. he looks like i dont take care of him, i worm him and give him anti-biotics for any injury he has. any ideas on packing weight on him?

How old is he?  I've seen young dogs that are just genetically skinny, but fill out when they get older.

You might also trying the raw diet...

I would take him to the vet. Get him checked for worms and get some blood work done. When I have one like that that checks out at the vet I burn the hair off and gut a 75-100lb hog and feed them the whole hog, organ meat first.

when he went to the vet for a bad infection in his mouth after getting into a fight with my old pit, the vet saw a genetic spot on his leg and drew blood and did a full blood work except for heart worms. he came back good. the guy who i bought him from as a pup was telling me that nearly every litter has 1 pup that when he/she reaches nearly grown status that they are scronny. could the skinnnieness be genetic like the sore on his leg? i own his grandmother and she has a hair thinning issue and my young gyp who is from my males littermate brother has the smae hair loss issue. it seems that that paticular stran of bmcs have health issues but are not life threatening. as far as feeding him a whole pig, if i could find them i would try that but around here the pigs must've gonne into hiding or something.

I am a big believer in vitamins and minerals try giving him b12 and add something high in fat like milk replacer to his food.  I just picked up a lacy that is the same way but have yet to have a dog I could not put weight on we will see on her she is picky

PANACURE IS A WORMER. I KNOW YOU HAVE ALREADY WORMED THE DOG. BUT TRY PANACURE C.

YOU CAN ORDER ONLINE.  TRY IT.

Tried and true method: I'm the resident dog feeder around our place. There's a tub of pig lard you can get at wal mart-it's in a white tub with green writing, it's in the mexican food section. It's 100% pure lard so obviously use it sparingly. I'd take the dog food (we feed diamond) mix it with warm water to soften it, then stir in that lard...man oh man! I actually get in trouble for keeping the ol' mans dogs too fat Smiley

We use the Zimectrin Gold as well, and alternate that with Ivomec every other month. Our vet here says it's probably the best worm regimen he would suggest (i'm sure all vets will tell you something different). It's amazing what a tape worm or alot of rounds will pull from a dog.
