Well, I decided to do a swan dive while trying to cross a creek on a log. When I got out of the creek the garmin was still tracking but none of the buttons worked. So we got back to the truck and tried to dry it out but it wouldn't come back on. Any advice on getting the garmin dried out and working would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe soaking it in alcohol? I would Google how to dry out a cell phone and follow those instructions

Take the batteries out and keep them out! You may have ruined it already. But anytime you get a phone or anything with batteries wet take the batteries out and put it in the sun. Let it dry real good before putting batteries or any power to it. Contact cleaner works good to dry it faster. With no power source spay it all inside and let it drain out. Then let it dry. The contact cleaner will cut down on corrosion.
I put everything in ziplock bags when hunting. I tend to not notice water or just not care. The ziplocks slow things down a little but it has saved me tons of money. I also ignore rain!

I dunked myne also this morning but in mud. It was just one big mud ball in my hand.
Check the label for WD40. At one time it was used for getting moisture out of electronics from what I heard.

WD40 stands for Water Displacement and 40 because it was the 40th attempt. But it is not for small electronics. But WD40 and duct tape do miracles. |

Garmins ARE waterproof. You have other problems with it other than the water.

The rice trick is the best for small electronics and it does work miracles. As stated, get the batteries out as quick as possible. Then put it in a bag of rice overnight(ziplock baggy or a freezer bag sealed tight). You want the rice to pull all the moisture out of the device and not have a chance to pull it out of the air if you leave it unsealed. Will dry out cell phones, ipods, etc.. and i would assume garmin handhelds. I wouldn't suggest leaving out in the sun, as it could actually cause some heat damage. I haven't dunked my garmin yet, and hopefully won't have to use the rice bag on it any time soon  Maver!ck |

Be careful with alcohol and cleaners. I'm pretty sure they will eat the coating off any circuit board. Contact cleaner is just that. It's for electrical contact points such as plugs.

i droped my cell in the river and i took the batteries out and balled it up in socks (alot of socks) and put it in the dryer works fine now

mine is doing the samething and the only time it got even close to getting wet was like a month before it started acting like that...have tried the rice thng as well to no avail...put batteries in it and it worked fine for a few hrs on the hunt but eventually did the same thing...gps and compass still work and it tells me how far out the dogs are but none of the buttons work
