I use my 22M when I run a few spots that are a little closer to houses then usual. It's all about shot placement and internal damage.

Remington Model 62 SAC
One of my dogs blew a pad last week so I am taking a rest. I have dropped quite a few hogs with my 22mag but like was recommended shoot for the temple with a heaviest grain HP  you can get. I was using Federal ammo but I heard they stopped producing the round so have switched to Fiochis while I find a new bullet.

I used an amr semi auto 22 mag pistol when I didn't use a catch dog. I tried hollow points and they bounced right off the skull. Did some research and started using the CCI 22 wmr TMJ and it punches a hole right thru the skull and they drop in their tracks. It is the 40 grain, TMJ just means that it is a full metal jacket. The 22 LR does about the same. We used these calibers to keep the bullet from going all the way through and possibly hitting a dog.

Sorry guys, I was sitting outside last night enjoying a cold one and it popped into my head that my 22 mag is an Interarms (Rossi) and not a Remington. Just wanted to clear that up before having someone wondering what the... is a Remington Model 62 SAC!

Reuben- FMJ is illegal to hunt with in Hawaii so I've stuck with the HP in 45-50 grain and waiting for the broadside shot.

earlier I said I owned an amr 22 mag and then I realized I made a mistake. It is an AMT AUTOMAG 2 22 rimfire magnum made in Irwindale,CA.

When I tested the penetration If I recall correctly the ballistic tip came in second compared to the hollow point.

My suggestion to you is to buy a box of each and then stack a few 2x4 boards together and see which one does the best

I bought it from a local gunsmith a couple years back. I've seen a few come up for sale in online auctions but don't want to mess with the whole FFL Dealer wants his cut stuff.
