All this animal drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, it gets a little crazy around my place sometimes. Stray cats whipping up on our yard cats and waking up the whole neighborhood, foxes and coyotes tormenting my dogs at all hours of the night, my wife opening the door to walk our wiener dog only to turn her out on top of a herd of deer and end up leaving the county with them while my wife gives chase having a full blown melt down.
Most recently we had 2 baby wild ducks come trucking through the yard and past my dogs yesterday. My son ran them down and instantly, he and my wife decided they wanted to be duck ranchers.
My little city girl wife goes to the feed store where they are more than happy to outfit her with the latest and greatest duck ranching equipment and feed. Almost $200 later we have 2 baby ducks in our house with the wiener dog going ape number 2 and I am more than doing a little spewing about the money just spent on this new endeavor!
The ducks were dead when I checked on them this morning after being up half the night in my underwear hunting red fox in my yard!
I am tired, my wife is devastated, and I can’t get close enough to our cat to kick the SOB for not doing its job to begin with and costing me the money and hassle with the ducks!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still think about Mandi’s (aladotrot) duck nabbing confession and the renegade prowler pony hunt in the middle of the night in her night cloths with a BB gun and laugh out loud!
We cant be the only ones that suffer from all this animal drama. I would consider it a favor if you share a few of your stories.
It would make me feel a little better from the sleep deprivation that I suffer from, the $200 worth of duck ranching equipment I now own, and the dead baby ducks I just berried!

Lol! Just remember the the next time some ducks come trough your yard you won't have to buy anything but a little feed that is if you decide to keep the stuff. I wonder what the return policy is. You could always try that.

Boarninja,
It will not get better. Don't try to fool yourself into thinking it will, because it won't.
Ducks, pigs, horses, chickens, rabbits, turtles, sheep, goats, donkeys, the list goes on and on.
One of the more notable ones was a damn old seagull with a broken wing or something. SOB ended up living in a cage in the house for a while.
The other night Mandi was telling me about a dream she had involving several pet tigers. All I could do was shake my head, and say a little prayer that I don't end up building a tiger enclosure anytime soon.

My wife SWORE I would never get her into the sticks but now that I drug her here kicking and screaming she is warming up to it quickly! Got her a little garden going and then she wanted a pet rabbit that we keep in the house, taught her how to kill snakes (we get lots of practice at this) and the other day we were talking about getting some chickens. You have to take the good with the bad but all in all there are worse things that could happen
Chris and Mandi definitely take the cake for having a BROAD selection of furried and feathered friends hahaha

I can go on and on with these stories!!
But this is some I have had here recently!!
Crystal raised a baby pig it was in the pen and had wieghed about 100lbs I wanted it gone it had done gotten mean!!But she said no!!Then Crystal wanted a Regstered gaot!!Spent $300 on a goat put it in the pannel penn next to the hog I hear a gaot screaming and went to check on it the goat stuck its head through the fence got hung and the hog ate the ears off the goat! The goat died!!
Then I had a litter of pups never had a disease on my place the whole litter got Pneumona so $700 at the vet saved one!!Crystal let it out to play and my little girl ran over it with the mule and killed it!!

Tigers?? Oh MY!!! I won't go there.
I have had my fair share of Critters, needless to say Mandi and I can always compare notes and talk animals when we get a chance to see each other. Mandi dis introduce me tp a few of the more unusal critters that we had to get next, like the goats, tghey faint and its fun.
Good thing I am thrifty or Thomas would blow a gasket if I did not find and use recycled materials for building most our enclosures.
The chickens I realy enjoy. The rabbits are a pain in the azzz, but I am using the manure for gardening. the smaller copperheads started dissapearing when the chickens and guineas started ranging, however we now have an abundance of big chicken snakes stealing eggs. The donkeys, I love if nothing but their gentle spirits, and the loud brays announcing that "momma is on the way to feed us" or "momma, where the hell are you, your late"
The mule footed hogs are our garbage disposal for the dead baby chicks, excess feed, spoiled feed, sour milk, anything that does not go in the compost because the dogs might roll in it kind of stuff. Also they are interesting creatures to observe the communication amoungst them

In my dream, I ran out of fresh meat for the tigers and had to buy them dry cat food. They ate like 8 lbs of dry catfood each per feeding and I had 10 tigers. I know it was just a dream, but fortunately it reinforced my hatred of cats. Chris has no danger of having to build a tiger enclosure.
Cheers

UNDERDOG that crape aint funny!!!
Besides, my wiener dog has duck on her menu now! My wife would need therapy if she witnessed her baby(wiener dog) eat another one of her babies(ducks). lol Lets just say that she is not cut out of the same cloth as the gals that frequent this board.
In other words, she is a citified wuss when it comes to animals. You got to be careful with her though because she has a spinning back hook kick that can take a mans head off!

Boar Ninja,
It is likely a blessing in disguise that the ducks met an unfortunate end. I had a duck tragedy last week when about 8 of them got loose out of the brooder. The roosters in my "cockpit" weren't picking on the ducks, so after much watching I decided that the ducklings could stay the night out of their brooder. The next morning, all the younger ones had vanished without a trace, and I had to pull a month old big duckling out of the hole a rat had obviously drug him down into. It was pretty obvious why his injury was incompatible with life. What really sucked was that the ducks belonged to Chris oldest daughter who midwifed the whole hatching process for three days. When she came back to the house, I had to explain that her ducks got eaten.
The two ducks that are left make a huge mess in their food and water. I hate them. I deal with them twice a day because they drain the huge poultry waterers that often. I think ducks belong on ponds where they can't make a big stinky mess. Unfortunately, these ducklings are not fully feathered and have to stay in the brooder until they are big enough and feathered to go to a pond. Grrrr...
Cheers

Ninja, this one's for you!
A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest. After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, 'I'm so sorry, your Duck, Cuddles, has passed away.'
The distressed owner wailed, 'Are you sure?'
'Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead', he replied.
'How can you be so sure?' she protested. 'I mean, you haven't done any testing on him or anything! He might just be in a coma or something.'
The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room, and returned a few moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination table and sniffed the duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head. The vet patted the dog and took it out, and returned a few moments later with a cat.
The cat jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back on it's haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled out of the room.
The vet looked at the woman and said, 'I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck.'
Then the vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman. The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill.
'$500!' she cried, '$500 just to tell me my duck is dead!!'
The vet shrugged.' I'm sorry. If you' d taken my word for it, the bill would have been $50, but with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $500.'
