Went Sunday morning to a place down the road from my house. I've taken a liking to hunting these places, because I can load up and head off on the ATV's right from the driveway.

We turned out about a half hour before sunlight and the dogs made about a 30 minute round but came up empty.  We penned the dogs and headed to another section of the property and kicked out again.  The dogs ran about 800 yards and opened up bayed.  We drove around a little closer and sent the two bulldogs and as usual, they caught in the water.  Ended up a pretty nice boar that was determined he wasn't giving it up easy.

Meanwhile, the curs had rolled on.  When we got back to the Ranger, I hooked up the long range antenna and it showed the dogs out 3/4 a mile.  I knew there was very little woods that direction so we decided to haul tail and try to cut them off before they hit the highway.  It took a while to get there, and I noticed along the way they weren't moving.  When we got close, we could her them bayed out in a milo field.  I hate grain fields because around here the hogs have a tendancy to not stay bayed and so I started grumbling this was about to be a long morning.  We got close and after three or four bays, the dogs all sat down hard about 75 yards in.  We sent the bulldogs and waited for the catch.  When Zeus hit, all we could see was dog hind-ends flying around above the stalks...not good!  Finally they all got latched and sat the boar down where we could take control.  I gave instruction to get the curs on leads if possible and lets get back towards the river.  Since there weren't any trees around to clip him, I decided to get a quick pic before I broke the old man off.  That dog would say caught even on a dead hog all day if you left him.  Zeus has been semi-retired since receiving a rear leg injury about five months ago.  Unfortunatly, he got his mouth boogered up on the grain field hog and we had to call the hunt.

Back home, showered up and eating some left over breakfast by 10:30.  I like quick strikes and action filled hunts when the pups are on the ground!

Very Nice!  Nothing like a multi hog hunt close to the house!

Good hunt Bryant, How is Zeus' mouth?

Krystal,

He got a cut all the way through the top flap of his mouth.  Not a real bad cut, but it was bleeding pretty heavily.  I finally got pressure on it, and got the bleeding stopped.  I would have put him in the trailer and kept hunting, but I had driven my Ranger to the land and didn't have any place to leave him.  I was worried bouncing around on the buggy would re-start the bleeding so we just headed home.

Can't beat that Bryant. Grin

I like it so far.  Just need to get a box rigged out for the back.  It pulls the buggy fine, but it would be nice not to have to take it if I'm hunting with only a couple of dogs.

How's you pup?  Got mine baying with my other two pups for the first time yesterday afternoon.

Good hunt Bryant. I never took you as a grain field hunter..... Wink

Call me a sissy I suppose, but I don't like grain fields.  I suppose if thats all I had then I would learn to enjoy, but I just prefer the river bottoms.  In my experience, I can catch just as many without all the wrecked crew.

Nice hunt and pics.    It would be nice just to role down the road from the house and cut the dogs lose.  Sweet deal.

Pup's doing fine. I haven't showed him a hog yet, but he bays anything and everything. After talking to Larry, i'm scared to cut him loose to run around... he wants to go.

Good hunt Bryant!  Took the dogs out on Saturday and they bayed a group which broke when the catchdog didnt catch  Huh?  Sissy stayed back as the dogs took after the group and eventually got into the brush and found her own that stayed behind.  Bad thing was that the catch dog was gone and as we snuck in there her hog made an escape.  Not bad for her second time on the ground.  Took her to the baypen on Monday and she did good...

Glad to hear Jerry.  The yellow pup in the second pic above is Sue, a sister to Sissy that a hunting partner of mine has.  She's doing very well also.  Stays busy, and stays gone hunting.
