Yesterday was me and my wifes 6th wedding anniversary so I wasn't able to pull the all nighter that Mike and Chris and Mandi did but I was able to get to the part that mattered haha.  They hunted two other properties before me and Keith met up with them at around daylight and put dogs on the ground.  We hit one feeding area and dogs didn't hit on anything so we moved on to the next block of woods.  Dogs hit the ground rolled out and we could hear a few fleeting barks as they were trying to get a hog shut down.  Sat down and showed bayed at 400 yards so we started walking.  Got there to find this fiesty 150lbs boar hog.  Not a monster but after the summer we have had and countless dry runs I was thrilled to hear a bay and see a hog.  We tied him and got out of there, by 7:30 and one hog it was so hot some of the dogs were a little wobly and there was not a cloud in the sky so we called it a morning and headed to the truck.  Good times all around and a good breakfast afterwords and home by 10:30.  Put the boar in my reserve to be used at a later date.

If you look closely in the middle of the pic there is a grey spot, that is the hog.  The tall grass didn't allow for the best action pics

I took Smiley and a yella dog Chance give me just to exercise em and sure enough we got on one that wanted to cooperate.  Gloria is only about 14 months old so she needs some hogs under her belt as well so I was glad I took her.  I aint too worried though, there will be other hogs and she will be a little older and wiser when she sees them.  I am about to start carrying cricket and gloria everytime I go.  It was nice to see her mad at me when I left her in the kennel this morning, tells me she was at least thinking about it  Wink

Chance she really aint rough I think that when they sat him down a few grabbed ahold and he went to poking em.  Both her and Smiley had a few holes that I noticed once I got home.  She should work out just fine.

Jesse, Im looking forward to next weekend.  I have carried dogs out to your part of the world on several occasions and I will be the first to tell you my dogs dont have the feet for it.  I have caught hogs out there but my dogs feet were always shot after the first race/hog.  I am looking forward to seeing some new dogs hunt and I always enjoy that country and company out there.  I have a kennel full of young dogs right now too which isn't helping my ability to hunt places with exotics etc.  Either way I am looking forward to it!

It was a long night... took 12 hours to catch a hog, but we finally caught one. Grin

We had a first timer with us named Josh. Josh and I have been working together on various hog removal projects in the past several months. Last week, he picked up 1,000 acres we could run the dogs on. He also picked up a smaller ranch a few miles down the road for him to gun/bow hunt on. The lady who owns it was getting pics of two big boars on here game cam. Josh popped the big one about 9:00 last night. Chris, Mandi and I went and helped him get it loaded before we turned out. He went 310# on the scales... I wish we could have turned out over there! After a dry run, an hour drive and an hour nap... Matt met up with us this morning.

Me and Josh...

Had fun guys. Long night, but it was worth it. I finally made it home at about 10:30, showered and had me a nice 5 hour nap. Smiley

Jesse Paul,

I am looking forward to this coming weekend. Hog hunting, tubing, good friends, and good grub...what's not to be excited about. Maybe you can go hamstring some of those running hogs so my dogs have a chance to do some good. Grin

Looks like a fun hunt.  Those quick morning hunts are the ticket this time of the year.
