Cut vest?

Need to know the best kind of vest pple use during the hotter parts of the year to help keep ur dogs cooler. I usually just run Cut Collars but my best dog got cut and then another after that so i just need some suggestions..thanks

Duncan for me. You can buy them from L3 or bristle buster. Best breastplate  I've seen! I run them on all my dogs. They keep cool and can swim in there great. Also Duncan and a little pocket around the heart to let air in. Dogs aren't like us. They don't get hot all over there body only the head an heart. L3 did alot of testing on this.  I just order a new one for my pup. I'll get some pics up when I get it for ya.

Better bay dogs = cooler catch dogs...

If I was sending my CD's from 500yds to an uncertain bay, then I'd opt for a plate style vest...

but I like to get close, turn in, and get-r-done... CD don't have much time to get hot that way.

I'll stick with a full vest to better protect my "short duration" catch dogs.

The breastplate are just like full cut vest. So they have just as much protection as an American cut vest. And I agree I need let my catch dog run miles anyways.

Wild Boar USA - KEvLar is the best material for a catch dog, Wild Boar USA has it in a a couple versions, can get in regular length or shorter version which is what I am using right now with this heat the Kevlar in a short version.

The breastplate are just like full cut vest. So they have just as much protection as an American cut vest. And I agree I need let my catch dog run miles anyways.

I am not sure I understand this statement. Are you saying that a breast plate has the exact same protection as a catch vest?

Seems to me that everything is a.tradeoff , breast plate - nominal protection, cool running.   Catch vest - maximum protection, hotter than breast plate.



I can see where each has its place, but I can't see where one is better than the other in all applications .

Chris you are correct, but I look at it a little different. I own and have used 4 different styles of Uglydog vests. I own and have used 3 different styles of breast plates. So I think I can speak from experience of using both types.

Breast plates are designed for big leggy dogs with good holding style. Part of the protection is in the ability of the dog to move very well and the dog stays cooler while caught for long periods. I would not say the protection is "nominal" I would say it is very good.

A full vest does offer more "coverage", but it is much hotter and limits the dogs ability to move. For a dog to be athletic it needs to be able to spread its elbows without restriction. That is a problem with most conventional small leg hole vests. This coupled with the dogs body being bound up limiting lateral movement of the spine creates a situation where the dog "needs" the full coverage because he can't move well enough on a bad boar to keep his feet and/or position. Also the dog is working against the boar as well as the vest at times and this increases the work load for the dog and creates more heat.

Each of us needs to evaluate our dogs size and holding style coupled with how we use them and in what conditions. Then pick the best protection for the dog.

Brest plates are not for every dog, but to dismiss them is a mistake they are/can be very effective protection.

I have had fewer cuts to my catch dog while it was wearing a breast plate than I have had while they were wearing a full vest, as well as a drastic reduction in problems with heat exhaustion.

Well Silveraton said it all. Duncan's breastplate seem to be longer then any of the other AU breastplate out there. And I'm sure you can order them longer but I wouldn't see why you would want or need that.  I run breastplate on all my dogs bay dogs to catch dogs. And the reason I run them  on all of them is cause it doesn't hinder any of the movernment with any of my dogs so that being said I run these instead of just a cut collar. Since I've been using them for the last 6 months I don't think I'll ever change back.

I gotta say x2 with Mr.Paul.My Dogos finally can move and be protected with  L3's plates.Bar none the best I have ever had.
