Pigdoggin,
I very seldom use penicillon, very seldom stitch or staple. I use "Cut Heal" at least twice a day but 3 times a day is better untill the dog is about healed. I try to buy the cut heal in the bottle that has the pump. I try to stay away from the one with the dobber because some dogs don't like to have it dabbed on and sometimes you can't reach all the places that need meds. Also the aerosol can will sometimes spook some of the more skittish dogs. Just keep a bottle around for the next incident if you don't already...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog... A hunting dog is born not made...

According to my vet, dogs have just about become immune to pen. My advice would be to staple it up if it not too late and start em on anantibiotic like cephalexin. If its been open awhile, then closing it up wouldnt help unless you trim the dead skin away. just do some hydrotherapy acouple time a day with the cephalexin.

get some alma from grocery store in spice area. mix it with some vaseline. alma draws up the wound to help heal faster. vaseline keeps bugs and flies off. 2-3 times a day
