Martin,
I always worm with Ivomec 1% solution for cattle/swine on the first of the month at 1/10cc per 10 lbs of body weight... this a heartworm preventative.
The following week i'll worm with Safeguard/Strongid paste, about what you put on your tooth brush... this is for intestinal worms. I rotate the Safeguard and Strongid every month.

x2 This is the same routine and dosages I use except I use safeguard for two months and then switch to strongid for one month. I don't know why I do it that way. It would probably be easier to just switch every other month like Mike.

I use panacur and strongid. Worms will become immune to strongid after a year or two. Then you use panacur the worms will not become immune to panacur, and if you use it 3 days in a row it will kill everything including tapes. After you are on panacur for a year you can go back to strongid because the worms that built up immunity died off while you were on panacur. For Strongid use 1 CC per 10 lbs. For Panacur use 2.3 CC per 10 lbs. The panacur is $140 per Liter and Strongid is $45 per Liter. For ivomec use 1/10 of a CC per 10 lbs. with a .5 CC max. This is how my vet told me to care for my dogs 7 years ago and it works.

Reuben I was told the same with safeguard. The folks at the vet supply told me 3 days and so did some other kennel folks. I worm mine monthly but try to do a 3 day worming every e or 3 months. That's just what I do and it works, hopefully somone with a little more savvy will chime in:)

Blake,
I worm pups once a week starting when they turn 2-3 weeks and slow it down after about 10 weeks of age, and grown dogs... I watch their stool and worm about every 3 to 6 months if all looks good or when the stool looks watery. But runny stools can be from over feeding or a change of food. My dogs are on concrete so re-infestation is low compared to dogs on ground floors.
