I ain't had one but I hear they can't take the heat down here real good. So they have to be inside during the summer. I would imagine it would be hard on them to hunt down here in Texas. My 2 cents

I have never owned one but trained a few....NOT a hunting dog like one would think if at all. Too much hair,tend to be dog agressive and don't really care much about people. I think you could sure do better for a hog dog.

X2 dont like poeple, other dogs or any thing else, except for the one that feeds it, from the little experance i have had.... |

i can tell you from experience that if your sick and tired of having little kids bicycle down your street thats the dog to stoppem.  my dad can tell you from experience that theyve got very durable skulls and it may take a couple whacks to crack one  outside my hatred for them and sharpays theyre coats are a little thick for athletic work in the heat so far as im concerned |

A friend of mine had one in Alaska for 5 years and one day it just decided to rip her face off....No warning just stood up and bite her in the face for no reason and shook her till she passed out. Husband came running from back yard and dog was laying down wagging his tail like nothing happened. That is enough reason for me not to ever own one...my 2 y/o was there playing with that dog the day before too.  |

I bought one (out of quality blood) for my wife 12 years ago when we were stationed over in the UK. She got out of the fence and into the woods when she was 10 weeks old and killed a cat. Very loyal dogs and very protective dogs. She made a nice house dog when we kept her inside. If nothing is going on, she's laying down. She has been as active as I've required her to be. Was hell on small game when she was younger. No health problems, she's been a nice hearty dog. She's lived outside for the past 9-10 years and has tolerated the heat well. She's started to lose her hearing, but the eyes are still bright and she is as active as a pup.
Depends on what you want one for. If I strictly wanted a low maintenance (other than when they blow their coat before their heat cycle) house dog, I'd replace her when she goes.

thanks for everyones input i did buy a male and he is very good with my girls but now some of the input scares me although ii guess any dog can turn on you. THANKS AGAIN

Good luck with your dog.
In general (applies to many things), it always kills me when people do research on something "after" they have alreay spent their money. A little late to be asking IMO.

When you asked my answers were "in general" based on my experiences with them but there are always exeptions to general statements. Like Scott said about his, never had a prob with her and I am sure many other never have either. Scocialize the crap out of the dog and do plenty of obedience with it and be smart...you will prolly be ok.

I have one. In his prime he was as game as they come. Got him neutered at a young age and he never had a mean bone in his body. Loves everyone he's ever come in contact with....humans, dogs and cats. If you were an armadillo, opossom, skunk, porkie pine (sp?), or any other animal you were as good as dead. He would run deer, hogs, swim the ponds while I tried to fish, tube down the river with me, hike all day, sleep outside my tent and guard me all night. Put it this way....I love him as much as a man can love a dog. He's my buddy. He bayed several hogs in his life although he was never a hog dog, just a house dog. Most loyal dog I've ever owned. He's deaf and almost blind now and I can't bring myself to do what probably should have been done months ago. He's 13 now.  On the flip side....my uncle had one that attacked his daughters friend for no reason. He put it down the same day. Kevin O. |
