I just sold my boat and am getting out of fishing for the moment...This hog hunting bug has really got me and my kids.  I am looking to buy a new Polaris Ranger Crew.  I just want to know if the 500cc model is under powered.  I rode in  guys mule that I swear is so under powered it is almost worthless.  That thing is just a dog.  I know that I dont want that kind of thing for sure please give your views.  Thanks for the help.

Mule 4010 is 617cc governed around 25 mph.   If you think it is a dog, then I would be inclined to get a 700 or up Ranger.

For what it's worth, I have never felt my Mule is underpowered, just slow... two different things. I wish it did not have a governor on it.

If you really want to go, look at the Razr crew.

I have two of the ranger 500 4x4 single seat (2004 & 2009) they have plenty of power! The 04 has been through a lot of tough terrain and held up good. I do all of my ranch chores and hog hunting on these.

I got the Ranger 8hundo and I like it.  I have followed around my buddy Steven on his RZR and if it had any kind of bed that would be the ticket.  I bet I could find a way to build a box for the back of it.  It is alot narrower than my Ranger and can get around pretty good in the woods.  We were making our own trail and he could go quite a few places I couldnt.  We had to cross a slimey mud creek and make it up and creek bank and without the the top end power on both buggies we would have had to use our winches.  You can spin the tires fast enough to clean the tires out and get a bite not to mention the suspension keeps the power on the ground on all four corners.

I know the 800 flies! The 500 should do a good job.

I have only rode in that one mule and only two times and it really is a dog.  We would get stuck left and right because it did not have enough power.  I think it was the base model mule and an older one too 2-3 yrs but it really was almost worthless unless it was dry ground and not too steep.  I was not say that they (mules) are all like that because I have only been around that one.  I am just a Polaris guy from way back and I have always had great luck with them so that is why I am looking there first.  I would love to get out and hunt with some of yall that have the different UTV's and get to know them for myself.  Thanks for your opinions guys keep them coming.

I rode in the 6x6. It was fast and never got stuck. We drove the like crazy people. Through water, mud, and up steep angles all that and the four rear wheels made it feel real good. That and it was fast!

There is no question the Ranger has more performance than the Mule. ie top end, smoother suspension, and more ground clearance.  Can't beat the Ranger for hauling butt across a rough pasture either.  I think of the Mule like more of a workhorse, and less of a fun machine.  The Ranger is probable the best blend of utility and performance...and that is hard for me to say, because I really don't like Polaris products Grin ....and I almost bought one a month ago...

I feel ya on that man...I was die hard  Suzuki guy and then I broke an axle and borrowed my firends P-holarius as I once called them and sold my Suzuki and never owned another  type of four wheeler again.  If you go to Polaris I believe you will never go back.  Just what happened to me.

No question I would spend the extra money and get the 800.

call Kris at hoffpauir polaris in goldthwaite. gurantee they will beat any price by $1000

I tried to deal with Hoffpauir when I bought mine.  First strike against them was me having to call on three consecutive days getting the same message that the sales people were busy and someone would call me back.  I have an issue with begging a retailer to sell me something.  As far as pricing, they couldn't compete with Normangee Tractor.  I didn't tell them how bad they were beat, but I did tell them I had a better price and that I was a cash buyer that day.  I believe they thought I was full of BS.  Needless to say, they lost a sale.

I have a 500 Ranger and love it it has plenty of power and runs about 42 mph I believe. Me and my partner and 6 dogs in the back and no trouble going anywhere. Just buy a winch for it if it does get stuck youll wish or be glad you had one the Rangers are heavy machines.
