I think it's more your decision than ours.  Nice looking dogs.

Both nice looking dogs.Dont know why you would want to cross them though. In my opinion to many crosses like that are made everyday.Keep the Pits with the Pits, and the Blackmouths with the Blk mouths. But If you are set on that sort of cross.Start looking at all these hog hunting websites classifieds. There are 500,000,000,000.17 pups like that floating all over cyper space. Most are free. Its not about a pit just being a catch dog.

Here is a question, Are both dogs the best of each breed you have come across? Will all the pups have a home at 8 weeks?

There are just so many dogs out there, and so many people breeding them just because they feel like it.

If you have to ask the opinion of the board, who know nothing about your dogs, you shouldn't breed them.

now if you have been doing this for a good while, you know the dogs backrounds or bloodlines well, and you think your breeding will be better than others who are selling a pitxblackmouth than go right ahead.

otherwise look around, and find a good pup.

I guess it comes down to what you believe, if I felt dogs were like rats, id be breeding them all the time, keepin what I like, and killing the rest. but im just not like that.

there are plenty of good breeding around you, you justt have to research and look.

I can't really articulate what i am trying to say, but i am tired.

Good luck

Your dogs, both are greaet looking but i agree, there are so many pit crosses out there it shouldnt be that hard to find one..  Im just partial to pits being pits and curs being curs i guess, but all the fl curs ive had have always been real catchy anyhow, never had the need to try to make them any rougher.

I would vote no and from experience. I raised a litter once out of a male bmc and female bulldog. All were dead by 2 years old, didn't know when to back up and bay. My opinion for what its worth.

well I think it will be a good cross I use a half and half for my catch dogs. I like them for the lung and smarts. How big is the gyp. Some times a bull dog cant run as for or as fast but when the cur part it is a good cross . I lead all my catch dogs in ,no running catchdogs here

Well, i guess i agree with every body.  i have never understood why anybody would want to breed a bull dog to a cur dog?  BUT.... i owned a female 1/2 pit 1/2 BMC that caught harder that most pits, and could run alot farther and faster, she looks like a full BMC which are used alot for squirell hunting too Wink

those are two fine looking dogs, but looks aint everything, if the two of them are everything that you like or look for in a dog, then go for it,  just send me the ones you dont want that look more like curs.

funny how people with cross bred dogs suggest not crossing even when a cross was the best dog they ever had/seen x 2.............

DO IT, work them and if the cross makes what u like then u will know if its a good cross.

I have had 3 of them and I like them. Where I hunt the hogs run bad and you need something to stop them.

Let me know if you do breed them.

First, the gyp needs to be rough, if she is a loose baying dog then I wouldn't breed her to a pit. I would find a gritty gyp from a long line of gritty curs and then breed her to a 1/2 pit 1/2 cur that hunts and stops hogs just like you like.   Get these 3/4 cur and 1/4 pit pups and select from there as best you can.

Just like others are saying on this thread. You can probably find pups already bred like this from one of the hog dog websites.

I have a friend that has had 3/4 to 7/8 mtn curs crossed with pit and these are hard hunting hog stopping catch/strike dogs. Some will bay some and catch, others will catch and never bark. Most of these need running vests and collars because without them they don't live long.
