ew man i have heard horror stories about that stuff cleaning out kennels.  if i were you i would take your dogs far away from where your keeping them and where the ones that died lived.  I don't know much about the disease but i have heard horrible stories about it.

I think people are good to go but I have heard that dogs can transmit it if they touch noses and exchange bodily fluid.

Sorry to hear Jesse.  There is a lot of stuff on the net about it.  It can be transferred through saliva, stool, grass, and even water according to a few sites.  I just read a few sites on it becuase i always worry about that disease.  I hope you don't loose anymore dogs, there apparently is no cure for it.

Were they on that boar that gutted your young dog?  What hog do you think it was?

The virus is shed in the saliva and nasal secretions of infected swine and is spread through oral or nasal contact. Aerosolization of the virus and transmission by fomites also may occur. The virus may potentially survive for seven hours in humid air and spread up to two kilometers. Furthermore, it may survive on well water for up to seven hours, in green grass, soil, and feces for up to two days, in contaminated feed for up to three days, and in straw bedding for up to four days.[6]

It's the worst thing I have ever seen a dog get.  Any dog that came in contact with the hog will probably get it. Seperate your dogs and the ones that start showing symptoms go ahead and put them out of their misery. That is some bad stuff brother.

Dang Jesse. That is bad, bad, stuff.

Can you kill the virus if you wash and spray exposed kennels and areas with bleach?

The guy's that I hunt with lost 5 dogs at the beginning of the year . It took about a week for the dogs to show systems and then about 24 hr they had to be put down.  That is some bad stuff.  We have not hunted that area since then but have heard of other folks hunting around there and some of there dogs go it too.  Sorry for your loss.

Jesse this sucks. Wish there was something I could do. Just hang in there. Get the rest of your dogs to another kennel if you can.

That really sucks man. The ones that have it are done for, I agree put them down when they start showing signs.

BUT not all dogs that were on the hog necessarily have to die.

I have read some dogs have an immunity to it, maybe from being exposed when younger.

I also thought it was not transferred dog to dog? I don't think people get it.

My buddy's dog got it, and he thinks he got it from a hog that my dog was on also, My dog is still alive.

I have also read that it can take up to 2 weeks to show signs, so it could have been from a hog days before he died.

It was a long two weeks for me, wondering if my dog would die.

bad deal man, sorry.
