Jessie, I'm 62 years old & have hog hunted most of that.I've lost dogs to pseudo 3 different times. 6 dogs the first time,4 dogs the second time, and 2 the last.It took about 6-7 days from the time I caught the hog to the time the dogs started dying. If any of your dogs didn't bite-catch the hog they may be ok.I understand that if a dog comes in contact with any body fluid of the hog, that dog is exposed. This is a horrible death to watch.I think it affects the lining of the dogs brain. There has never been a recorded case of pseudo in humans I was told.Jessie, if you want to call me I'll try to tell you all I know about it.As many dogs as i've lost ,I'm almost an athority on this cursed disease. My ph.# is 318 793 2913.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss - I hope the rest of your dogs make it.
There is a place here in Fl that is known to have psuedo rabies bad and I have heard rumor it may have made it to Okeechobee as well. We worked our puppies about a year ago and a friend worked his on the same hog as we did, his puppy wound up dying about a week later from what we presumed was psuedo rabies but we never had any ill effects in our dogs.
It is bad news for sure!

not good brother, thats a sh*tty deal and i hope that its taken its final toll and thats the end of this dilema for you. keep us updated on the situation. where have you been hunting lately? do you think this is something in our neck of the woods or have you been hopping around all over lately? do you think you'd be able to remember where youve hunted all the infected dogs in the past 3 weeks and possibly red-flag a certain area to keep the heck away from? since i hunt nearby some of your spots back home i sure as hell dont want to run into this either. that sounds like a nightmare come true. im sorry i dont have much info on it to help you out besides what google told me but someone had already posted that info for ya. but again thats a major kick in the nads and sorry it happened to you and if you have any clues on where it may have come from please share any ideas with us or PM me if you have it narrowed down to an area around our stomping grounds so we can try to contain and knock this crap out as best we can. if its local, as payback for your loss ill call up my chopper pilot buddy and he'll take us up and knock em out a more dog-friendly way. best of luck amigo. -lawson

Psuedo is not like anthrax and it is not concentrated in one area. Nearly every single hog has had it in their life. All the stars have to align for the hog to be in the infectious stage of the disease and then trade bodily fluid with the dog through saliva, blood etc. The infectious stage only last like 48 hrs while the hog is sick so you have to come in contact with the hog during the right 48 hr time span of his life. It is about like winning the worst lotto ever....

I talked to my Vet about it one time and he was pretty confident that he could give a dog a low dose series of hog vaccine and give a dog some immunity. I told him I had one to try it on, go ahead and order it. It wasn't but a day or two and the state came down on him like he had ordered a shipment of drugs. They wanted to know where these hogs were, who owned them, how many and so on. He had to tell them what we were going to try and they told him to forget about it with no explanation. If they can make a vaccine for hogs they can make one for dogs.

I went to a goat convention at A&M and they were talking about wormers for goats and there is not a dosage for goats on the bottles of cattle wormer and there is only a few kinda goat wormers and they don't work very well!So they were give us all the dosage and I ask why did they not just tell the dosage on the bottle! They said the money it takes to get that stuff FDA approved cost way to much money so they would only get approved for beef whitch has a better market! But it works on goats! There was a goat wormer that was called Prohbit they said was the best on the market! But the active ingredent was found to go into a human medicine for a cure so they pulled it off the market and it is only sold for humans and they changed the name! So I do beleave they have a cure or a Vac! There just is not enough money to be made!
