Realdogs and I went hunting Sunday a new spot the landowner couldn't take anymore so we went we caught 2 small shoats and found a place on the creek that had hundreds of this kinds of trees with this kind of fruit on it. The land owner says that  Sam  Houston traveled down this creek toward cypress so maybe they brought this fruit with them. Anyway I took it home and I'm doing some research with my county agent .  When you smell it  smells like a citrus fruit lemon or lime. That made the hunt for me.Took Scotts older pup she did good didn't bay it was to much for her or maybe I scared the you know what out of her when I shoot the other day but she hunted and did a whole lot we liked. I got to figure out how to get picture off my phone to my photobucket to send to this web page.

Was the tree that fruit was on green with long spikes-thorns on it?  I have always known those to be wild lemon trees.....not fun when you run into a mess of them in the dark OUCH!!

That looks like wild lemons... dark green bushes full of big thorns. I know where a thicket of them are on a creek bottom in the national forest.

I heard a new name for them the other day, when hunting over here with the old bohemian bunch.
they called em "Jesus Trees" I know I have called them a few other things before, too.

We've got wild lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruit throughout the SE forests.  I've seen lemons the size of man's head before, no kidding.  The only thing that holds true for them all is they're sour as all get out.  I've never found any wild citrus that you could eat.  I would like to know how some of them got there though...

I thought you were trying to give a warning Grin
You are def. right about it though, same type of deal as how trees always seem to start growing on the fenceline.
