Chadrad got me to thinking... so, you loose a dog(with a name plate) and eventually bump into the fool that has him....WHAT DO YOU DO?Huh?

Say, "hey, that's my dog".... to which he says.. "nope, I've had this dog since it was a pup"...

Well, after my friends bailed me out of jail for what happened thereafter, I'd of wondered what the "intelligent" thing would have been to do...

Any lawyers in the audience? Grin

Call the law... you should have plenty of photos of the dog to prove it.

Also, microchipping, tatoos, or branding should resolve any questions.

Microchipping sounds like the best idea... Guess I'll have to get off the wallet Grin

we lost a dog this year that just all the sudden went out of tracking range in the matter of minutes... i been keepin my eye out for him.

it would be hard not to want to hit them but the right thing would be to call the law like mike said

I think now that I finally have some keepers, I will be branding them.

It is hard to argue with a registered brand. That is something the law can see, without having to haul them to a vet to have their chip scanned.

More than a few times we've tracked dogs, who seemed to move faster than what should be possible... only to find out that they were in the back of somebody's truck.

It's always a little tense when you get to them, you never know if they were taking off with your dog, or you just happened to catch them.

I have had some dogs stolen, but I havent had the privlege of catching them as of yet.  I think that I would have to detain them by whatever means necessary till the law got there.

If it is a good samaritan that picked up your dog out of the highway, you thank them graciously and offer to pay them for their inconviniance.

If it is a low life, you just get your dog back.  How you go about it is up to you.

That reminds me of a funny story. A local guy that hog hunts around here picked up a vested cur dog that had a name and number on the collar and at that. Well, he calls the number, gets no answer, so he keeps the dog. Well, a few months later they are hunting in that same area and hear this dog bay up. They go to him and he's in a mans backyard. The catch is, its the man who originally lost the dog   Shocked Anyway, not sure of the details about what happened next back needless to say the man got his dog back!

Good question Noah. Can't say what I'll do till it happens(hopefully). Guess I'll hope for the best and handle it however I need to if I get lucky and run across the joker who nabbed him. I'm a firm believer that what goes around comes around. Still no info on the dog. Thanks for the concern.

I guess you would have to ask a few simple questions, like where did you get that dog. Depending on the answer to this question would probally determine if there would be a second question. If they said they found him on the side of the road I would ask why they didn't call the number that was on the vest or cut collar, if their was one. If they said it was theirs and had it since it was a pup then I would probally go ahead and give that person a good a#$ whoopin. with my luck they would call police on me and I would be the one in jail. This type person is as low as they come and if they had a hard time trying to see through 2 swolen eyes they deserved it. The bad part about it is you never seem to get to catch up with them. As mentioned in an earlier post what goes around comes around, I'm a firm beleiver in this. But... wouldn't it be nice to catch this person!!!!
