After responding to the thread about this months "pig eradication program" I was outside thinking about exactly how many pigs are in Texas? According to different sources I have found the estimated population to be between 1 -2 Million hogs! I then went ahead and googled the size of Texas, Which is 268,820 Square miles according to Wikipedia and the usable land mass according to citydata.com is 262,017! If you break it down to how many pigs are in each square mile of Texas, I came up with 1,000,000,000 pigs Divided by 268,820 square miles of land = 3720 pigs in every square mile! I think it is time for an attempt to get numbers down a few thousand!

There is a problem with your math. You used the figure 1 billion instead of 1 million. Three too many zeros.

1,000,000 / 268,820 = 3.719961312
Redneck version One million pigs in the State of Texas. Time to buy more ammo!

I would be willing to accept a salary position, Due to the fact if I lived in Texas I believe work would interfere with my attempt to chase all 3720 pigs I have hypothesized to be available! Dub- I believe the population could be closer to 2 Million, You may want to look into reloading! If you want I would be willing to measure out the loads for ya! Also must be a salary position only though!

I think the state is way off on their numbers. They've been estimating Texas had 2 million hogs for about ten years now.

The estimation states that maybe 95% of the counties have hogs. Also you can consider that a lot of the counties may not have a major problem or consider in many of the areas they do not exist....yet. In my county there is a large portion that does not have hogs. They are closing in but are primarily concentrated in general parts of my county.... I own it.
