Went out for the weekend. Split the hunt over a few blocks to reduce the hunting pressure.
Still working the young Catahoulas so it was up to them to do there thing without relying on the older ones. Mate also brought a couple of his young luggers(catch dogs) for there "final chance" to step up! We rotated luggers with the bailers until it warmed up..then kept running the Cats. A few pics from the hunt.
The first pic is a boar the Cats pulled out of a mob of about 40. They had the mob bailed after running on from a boar a few hundred metres away. It was something i don't think i will see again for a loooong time. They rounded up this mob & what appeared to move them towards us...Have you ever heard a mob of pigs rounded up??  Shocked  They sound like a jungle full of monkeys - ooh ohh arring...Bloody daunting sound let me tell ya   Wink

One day I am heading down that way.  How are those Louisiana dogs fairing compared to the dogs that have been traditionally used as bailers/ baydogs in your backyard?

A sounder can certainly make a lot of noise, especially when you a lot of tusk poppin!  Seems like the all the bushes in the world are coming to get ya.

Nice hogs and dogs!

That is the coolest sound in the whole world, I love it, it will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
Bunching and herding livestock is part of what the original Catahoulas jobs were- cattle dogs, thats part of the instinct bred into cur stock dogs that Americans use on cattle/hogs.

Good picture of the dogs in the water!

Good pictures and sounds like an awesome hunt.  I have to ask because we always so worried about rattle snakes around here, how often do yall have dogs snake bit or close calls your self with snakes?  There are some in your country that make rattle snakes look like a babies toy....

jhy - They (Catahoulas) are becoming more popular. Still pretty pricey over here, as with all purebreds.
As for the snakes, yeah some deadly buggers over here but being so HOT they are mostly tucked away under a log or something until later at night....SO usually only see a couple during the day & to date never had a dog bit! I know plenty of fellas who have though  Sad

This pic is Conch's Bodie's son (about 15mths old) with a boar from the weekend. I imported a couple of dogs early last year. Bodie was mated to the gyp on departure. Looks very much like Conch's Bodie. Still with some filling out to do yet!
Outback's BO - just making sure this boar aint goin' nowhere...lol

Nice pics, looks like those leopard dogs are getting it done.

How are the hogs over there... do they run very far for the bay dogs or stand and fight?

not really mate. Depends on the country we're hunting. In the real open stuff they usually take the dogs to water if with in a couple of hundred metres. In the thicker stuff they just pull up against a tree or stump....Don't usually have to go any further than 400mtrs to get to em!
If we have a catch dog (lugger) with us then the pig stops when lugged up! Aussies hunt luggers differntly to you folk it seems. A lot of luggers over here are used to find also. So they are walked off the leash free to search & find, or free to jump from the ute when ever scent is picked up...We only "clip" them up when it gets too hot & then we just let the Catahoulas keep working  Grin

Nice pics and nice dogs! I like dogs from Oz like the Bull Arabs and the lurchers that you use. A good friend of mine is Australian so I've heard many stories!

I bet it is quite an ordeal breaking those cats off those buffalo?!  We still got some nice cats around here.  I was at a friends yard, Reggie Skains, and his cats are baypen stock that work the woods really well too.  I am going to hunt a couple after deer season to see how they work in the woods for myself.  I had a heeler that was one bad arse in the baypen!

i have a buffalo at home that i train the young dogs "NOT" to hassle/trash on.
Occasionaly a young dog will suddenly decide he is bigger...Once they get close they soon feel "small" again...lol
