Got up and took the boys to school, (trying to score points before I tell the Battle Axe I am heading to the camp) and then started heading down to one of my hunting spots, (where I got my first bow kill deer Tues. morning), to drop off some corn to my buddies who were in their stands this morning. Before I got out of the school parking lot, I got a text that they each had stuck a deer and could I bring Yoli down in case we needed her to blood trail, so I stopped back by the house and grabbed her and my Judge. Got down there and one of the guys and taken a yearling because he didnt think he had hit the buck first. We put Yoli on the ground and found the deer, which were pretty easy to find, but still needed to work her. As we came back out to the truck, one of my buddies noticed a bloody arrow on the ground with a small blood trail that looked as though the animal had crossed the field and headed into the woods behind his truck. It wasnt any of their arrows, so we figured there was a poacher down there and we would just find his deer and then go look for him/her. I put Yoli on the ground and off she went through the woods. About 200 yds in she started barking then went silent for a minute or so then started up again so we went in there too her. As we got closer the barking/baying stopped and I heard the grunting. HOG!!! Well, this time we were prepared with enough firepower so we watched her work this hog for a minute while I took a couple of action pics, then I called her out and shot it with the Judge, (000 buck works great!) End of story, she ended up with 3 deer and a hog for the day and 4 deer 2 hogs for the year. Hasnt failed on a blood trail yet, dead or alive! Didnt ever find the poachers because it was getting warm and needed to get deer and hog cleaned, but I hope they look all day for that hog! Joey Young     |

Great story. How is Yoli bred?
Not sure, she came from Vom Kervinshoff Kennels if that helps. glad you are getting to use that Yoli dog, been waiting to see some pics of her at work.
She has been working out real well lately. I dont like using her in the late summer, accept for teal and dove. I didnt kill any teal but she retrieved a few doves though. As for the deer, I just ate the most deer meat I have in a while and as hot as it has been getting in the afternoon without her I may have lost a couple to spoiling and certainly wouldnt have been able to handle either of the hogs without going back to the house for another dog. |

They are like having a child and require a lot of attention, but are definitely great dogs! Always eager to learn or hunt in my expierence with them and everyone I talks too. Just found out I am not allowed to breed mine because she tested positive for HD(that she can carry the trait I guess, because she is straight as an arrow and I have had an AKC conformation judge who has Westminster wins also, and is familiar with the German Wire Hair standards(is the AKC version that doesnt have to pass all the field requirements, conformation, be a proven hunter, and have blood work and x-rays done mandatory, before they are allowed to breed, and you also have to be a sanctioned breeder to breed as well. No backyard breeders.), said she was conformation CH. quality. This breed has been like this for 107 yrs. so they produce a high precentage great dogs per litter.
