I don't know why but there always seems to be something magical about opening morning. I have had some awesome ones and some I would just as soon forget. I walked outside this morning and it was unbelievably clear and cold and calm, the three C's I like the most. As soon as I got from under the trees I could tell there was a heavy frost and I looked up at all the stars and saw a really good falling star. At this point I had already had a good hunt. I just had a bag chair with me and an idea where I wanted to set and watch the sun come up. I picked out a good oak tree and took up residence at the base and waited for the sun to shed a little light on things. Ii watched a couple young bucks as soon as I could see and they moved off and then a coyote in the distance making his way across the coastal field. I turned behind me at about 7:30 to see a few does and another body with it's head down. Well that deer turned out to be this great buck. I feel fortunate to have taken him, I had to stand and manuver againt the tree for a shot and hollar at him to stop in a small opening and then after a short tracking job I was able to recover him in the grass. Measured 21" inside and has seven scorable points. The absolute biggest body on a deer I have ever shot, easily 225 lbs on the foot and I would call him 7+ in age.

Thanks Jesse I saved my shell casing and everything haha. When you grew up hunting where I did deer like this were what kept you going out hunting.

No corn feeder or box blind??? No radio for ball game updates? Where was your cooler of beer? Or did you just have a flask of whiskey? That is not very "Texas like" Matt.   Wink
Your story, the buck, and how you hunted him are what I like very much!

Now that is hunting bud!
Very well done!
