I have never hard a problem getting a dog to start late. I have had problems with dogs that start to early. JMO

Get him, try him out, and if he does not work you can always find a good pet home for him. I know several people personally that are wanting an AB as a pet, but find that they tend to be quite expensive.

good looking dog, i am a big fan of those dogs. my 2 spoiled abs stay in the house.
i started my male late when he was about 2, and now he'll even find hogs hisself sometimes, id definately give him a shot.

it's never too late to start a catch dog. if they were born with enough prey drive to catch a hog, they always have it. catching is not something you can train - they just do it, although sometimes a dog takes a little longer for the switch to click. if he doesnt catch right away, get a baydog in there with him to excite him. if that doesnt work, leg a pig and get it squealing. the squeal really gets them going.

My AB gyp was 2 1/2 years old when I got her. She'd never seen a hog...took her to get her first look, and she damn near pulled my arm out of socket trying to get to the hog. Needless to say she caught that one. Didn't have to learn what a bay was either. Dogs were barking and she told me in no uncertain terms, she wanted to go. Point is, a mature bulldog should figure out what to do quick, fast and in a hurry.
