My best buck ever (Hope this works)

    I took this buck Sunday Nov 7, 2010.  Best buck I have ever taken and the best ever taken off my place.  Th buck weighed 208 pounds and green scored 140 4/8 B&C.

Thanks.  That was one helluva morning LOL.

    I passed up a spike, which I never do, and a huge doe.  Both of those deer were acting nervous and I could honestly smell this buck on occasion.  The spike came out first and kept looking back to the west , he would take a couple bites of honeysuckle and then freeze, I knew it wasn't me he was worried about.  He stayed  in the open a couple of minutes before moving into the heavy brush.  About 5 minutes later this monster of a doe came out, hit the opening and froze looking to the west.  She wheeled and bolted and about 10 seconds later this big buck came out trotting across the opening which is only about 30 yards wide.  I didn't have time to count points, or really look at him, I just knew he had lots of rack and lots of body mass.  I threw my rifle up and got a full scope, as soon as I saw hair I squeezed the trigger.  I shot him in the neck at about 50 yards.
   LOL I was shaking like the proverbial leaf !  I waited about 15 minutes then got out of the stand and went to the deer.  My Dad was hunting that morning also, so I had to wait for him to come to me.  I sat down with the deer, drank a cup of coffee from my thermos, smoked a cigarette, just generally making myself comfortable waiting on Dad when I heard the unmistakable sound of a big boar popping his tusk, followed by that low rumbling grunt that spells trouble.  This was followed by grunts from smaller hogs.  The hogs sounded like they were about 10 - 15 yards from me to the NE.  I quickly decided that sitting on the ground with my deer was not the place to be, even with a rifle so I got up and moved back to the stand really hoping the hogs would decide to show themselves but they didn't.
    Dad finally showed up after an eternity LOL, he was grinnin ear to ear over my buck, I was to of course.  I told him I would stay with the deer while he went to get the jeep.  I listened to the hogs feeding the whole time he was gone, considered stalking them and decided against it since I had no desire to come face to face with that big boar in the thick brush, rifle or not. 
     Dad got back with the jeep, he took pics of me and the deer, we loaded him up and headed to his house to butcher him.  It was an exciting weekend.  I saw a total of 19 deer in 2 days, one of them was a buck bigger than the one I killed, Dad said he saw 21.  This is not a game fenced area this is open range.  We just have lots of deer.

Thats a good buck!!!  your story reminds me of something you would hear Ted Nugent say on his hunting show!  Good stuff!

    That buck is better than any Dad has ever killed also.  Dad and my Uncle Rex hunt a game ranch in South Tx every year for culls and the best he's ever brought out of there was a 9 point.  I've never hunted deer anywhere but East Tx and 99% of that has been on land that belonged to me or the family.  We've had this farm for 20 years now and have let the big bucks walk, killing spikes and big bodied bucks with little horns.  Our culling has worked, we've got some 3 and 4 year old bucks that are quite impressive for East Tx deer.  That reminds me I've got to go back and kill that spike that I passed up for this deer LOL.
     Dad is 68 years old and I'm thrilled he is still able to hunt, I hope to have him as my deer hunting buddy for many years to come.

Good deer and great story    i wouldnt worry about the spike ,you need to get the hog for some great sausage    good hunt..
