Well, about four months ago or so, started seeing sign on my creek( i"m 10 miles north of B'ham Al on 52 acres) about a month of putting out corn and game cameras and I counted over 40 pigs. I raise american bulldogs , so of course, I've always had an interest in hogdoggin.
well, got 2 bmc's, and have been saving up for garmins and a couple more curs.
about a month ago, through some other bulldoggers north of me , met a hogdogger and ran his dogs on a sunday morning with no luck. after that , saw pigs less and less( i killed 3 pigs with my bow) till last two weeks, aint seen none, no sign , nuttin.
Talked to a fellow thursday and said the pigs got up on a golf course across the hollow from me about the time I started seeing them less. the owner got a permit to spotlight em and every weekened they,ve been killing the sh1t outta em, 10-15 a night, said last two weeks they aint seen any more.
I thought, "dang, after all that work I put into feedin and gettin those pigs to hang around they had to go get stupid and get all killed. I know there's more pigs several miles up the hollow and I'll just have to go a=further once i get all my gear, but dang, i Miss them rascals rootin around and posin for game camera pictures,,dont seem right those country clubbers got to kill em with crossbows without puttin no effort into it, and they left em all out for coyotes, didnt even butcher them or nuttin,, makes me sick

That stinks, I've been hunting this one patch for a few years now with good success and now a new Guy is leasing the property on the other side of the bayou is a butthead and dayleases the place to other buttheads.

Welcome to north Alabama amokabs.....hogs are kinda scarce around these parts. They will come to your feeders at times, but when a natural food source comes available such as acorns or planted crops. they'll quit the feeders and utilize it for awhile. It's a shame that the folks got to shot all the hogs you were watching, maybe some will show back up,....I'd make an oil rub for them near the feed. Take a piece of carpet or burlap and wrap a tree trunk at the ground with it, soak it in used motor oil and pour some around it on the ground, they love this and it'll keep them around to use it. Thanks firemedic, went out for a LOONNGGG scouting walk today and still a few pigs here an there. I'm gonna take your advice on the rub, heard several people suggest that tactic. I'm gonna get the garmins hopefully soon and then see what these curs I've picked will do.

 i hate to say this, but if it were me, i would turn the country club members or who ever was killn the pigs and leavn them lay over to the animal rights groups. there r a lot of shelters and hunter harvest like places to donate the meat to instead of leaving them lay. rich folks or wanna be rich folks seem to get away with more than the rest of us hard workn folks who use pigs and other wild game to supplement their food bill. turn them animal killers in and hope justice will prevail.

Man, Are you serious??   Why would you add more fuel for the Antis to use against hunters? Not to mention, the actions that you mention taking are certainly not going to get gun hunters / landowners / golf course owner to support hog doggers (which we need, tremendously). I know if it was me that was turned in to the Antis for hunting Legally by some coon hunter, you could bet I would do everything possible to make it ruff for them (including not supporting their sport in any way fashion or form).

The facts are that someone got a permit to shoot hogs off of a golf course. I would bet that hogs can do a number$$$$ on the landscape. I know it sucks for Amokabs because he has time and money invested, but I'd bet the damage and cost of repair that hogs do to a golfcourse would be more.

Being rich or not has nothing to do with the fact that someone (golf course owner) got a permit to protect what he uses to support his food bill. The same thing goes with landowners who fly helicopters, spotlight, allow hog doggers to hunt, etc. They are doing what they can to manage something that is taking money out of their pocket / food off the table.

 i am not saying that the golf course owner shouldnt use any means available to protect his lively hood and food bill. i would do the same thing to protect my investment. im saying to kill animals and leave them lay to attract more predators and not to mention the stinch of the rotting bodies. i dont want to get into a pi$$ing match over this but, to kill an animal and just leave it lay, that in its self should be a crime and is for certain game animals. i understand, just as any hunter does, sometimes u just cant find the wounded/ downed game and it goes to waist, but to knowingly leave any animal lay aint right by no means.

Charles, Charles, Charles... come on man, hogs are a nuisance like rats and roaches. I'd bet the farm that majority of members on this board kill and leave hogs on a regular basis. Most landowners want them dead... period.

I know some of the farmers and landowners around here shoot 'em and leave 'em lay. They tell us just to kill 'em and leave 'em for the buzzards...

I pretty sure it's illegal to leave an animal that you've killed to rot in Alabama,....but, since hogs aren't game animals here after they're harvested, that may not apply to them, I need to ask about that. I have a buddy that's a state biologist and he should know what you might do. It's touhg to find a huntable population of hogs in north Bama......I understand your frustration man.....good luck and try the 'rub'....it works.

I understand exactly how Charles feels (even though I would never turn any hunter in to a anti hunting group for any reason) .I was raised that unless your gonna eat it then don't kill it.  But that was before hogs were a problem.  I still eat what I kill and if ever have to much we find someone that will eat it.  It should be a simple solution with so many hogs that could be harvested to feed hungry or needy families.  Should be simple but seemingly its not. I understand hogs are costing farmers money and if they are left laying then that's up to who ever shot them.  But for the ones that I kill will  either be eaten or given to someone that will eat them.  If life gives you lemons,  make lemonade.

The local fox affiliate had run a short story on these pigs several months ago. they got wind I had a ton of photos and I graciously emailed them some good pictures. also let them know to talk to the country club , that I heard they had some damaged greens from the hogs. Didnt mention they had killed the stew out of them and left em to rot. Wanna see how the country clubbers spin it.
