Prices on dog food are just ridiculously high these days. I wanted to ask you guys if anyone knows of a place that sells dog food in bulk (not packaged) please let me know. My father and I are thinking of buying a month or twos worth of dog food at once just as long as its cheaper than the store brands. We are willing to drive far if we have to. If anyone has any tips or info on pocket friendly dog food, but also a good type....i definately dont want to feed them crap....please let me know I will greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, Cristina

Cristina,
Not sure what you are feeding, or what you are paying for it. So I am not sure how this compares, but for about the last 6 months I have been feeding Diamond High Energy from TSC, cost is 40.00/100# Which usually last me about 7-9 days feeding 5 aussies, 2 AB's, and 5 curs.
The bulk price would have to be a huge discount to warrant the handling/storage of the feed, plus the cost to go pick it up.

just be carfull if you get alot and store it cause it could mold and thats bad for your dog. tractor supply is the cheapest that i've found like the above said. #50 lb for $18 for diamond food which is good food. Walmart went up on the brown bag stuff $5 a sack to $22 for #50 lb bag.

dont know if you have an atwoods or not but they have a dogfood called duralife, its beside the diamond and a few bucks cheaper, it has more protien but less fat, dogs seem to like it and their coats look good, my female ab and my neutered male brindle curr dog are the only ones that are fat. I cant ever skinny either one of them up

Diamond is good food but, the price is still high. The main reasons dog food went up was high corn prices because corn is one of the main ingrediants. BUT the price of corn has dropped dramatically and the dog food is still sky high. Seems like it should be coming down about know. Not to mention fuel is way cheaper. Seems to me like dog food should get a bit cheaper also.

U need to try a dog food call hunters edge make by enhance. sold only at feed stores in texas. I have not seen it in any pet store yet. It is 24% protien and 18% fat and is a hell of alot better than diamond. My buddy feeds 30+ pitbulls and the food keeps them looking good year around and slick coats no sheding. Here in dallas we can get it at $16 dollars a bag if u buy a pallet witch is 40 50# bags. Other wise it is $23 dollars a bag. Just a sugestion to look into most cur dogs that I have seen on it look real good including my own.

Thanks guys. Ill do my research on those two brands. I would rather pay more for quality than the stuff we are buying at walmart. It is mainly corn, and its not good for the dogs, and they keep raising the prices!! Why not pay the same or a lil bit more for better food....right? Thanks for all the info.

Feeding a quality feed and a good worming program should cut down on the amount you have to feed. The are alot of misconceptions with the protein % and the Fat %. Dogs cannot digest certain ingredients well which may be high in protein or fat, this includes corn. Look on the ingredients label on the dog food bag and usually the ingredient that is listed first is what the food is made mostly of. Take a look at this, it should help clarify things a bit http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+1770&aid=668

thats true there the first ingrediant is your main. But to me $20 dollars a bag is not to high. If feed is costing to much your not feeding right unless your feeding several dogs. Im not doggin diamond food products just throwing another brand out there for sugestions.

I've been feeding Red Flannel for about a year now and the dogs seem to be doing great on it. 40 lbs for $15.99.
As far as how much to feed, each dog is different based I suppose on their individual metabolisms. Some dogs take a little more to maintain, and feed the same amount to the others and they get fat. Just have to watch each dog individually and adjust accordingly.
