Two of my pups have gotten parvo this week and died. All of them have had their shots. I have two pups left at the house that are not showing signs yet. I got them out of the pen they were in and moved them into one a couple hundred yards away, bleached their old pen several times. Any other tips to try and keep these other pups from getting it?

Thanks, John

give them natural addatives to build their immunity.
I would be putting in the RAW APPLE CIDER VINEGar to their water, feeding them fish oil and natural raw bone diets that will help their immunities.
If you get past this week I would say you got it licked,

Becareful where you buy your shots! Some people don't take care of the shots and keep them at the right temp.! I had a litter about 4 years ago that got it 4 of 9 got it they had shots from TSC  and the others had shot from the local feed store those 5 did not get it!
Now I order my shots and I have sent one set of 25 shots back to the maker because they were warm when they were delivered! I doubt a feed store or TSC would send there's back!

Thanks, Friday morning when I woke up and went out to the dog pens my Moe pup was dead, then yesterday before I went to school my pup out of Bella was acting a little lethargic, and sure enough when I got home I had to put her down. But at least my monkey pup and my pit pup are still acting fine, it has been four days since they were exposed to it so hopefully they will be alright.

If the pen they were in is built out of wood , BURN it...

I've got them in a different pen, but the wood will hold it in their old pen even with bleaching?

sf if you bleach it real good with straight bleach 2 or 3 times it may be aight. But wood, especially plywood can be hard to sterilize completely.  A buddy of mine lost 2 litters in a row that he tried to raise in a plywood brooder up off the ground. Both litters got parvo and died even after it had been thoroughly bleached.. He asked me what I thought he should do about it so I went by his house one evening and set it on fire. Not one pup has got parvo over there since..  Wink

If you want to try and save some pups you can force feed them raw liver  in small pieces and force feed them gatorade as often as possible. It seems to me that if the pup makes it past a few days that they can recover. I have saved some pups by doing this but it has to be a special pup to go thru those extremes. Good luck on your pups...

Dog vaccines need to be kept at the right temp. Also, when buying the shots make sure that you are buying the 7 in one plus coronavirus. TSC in my area only sells the 7 in 1 which includes parvovirus but not coronavirus. Either one of these viruses are deadly to the pups. The 7 in 1 is way cheaper than the 7 in 1 plus corona but is costing a lot more in the long run.

I NEVER buy from feed store or tsc or co-op, shipped overnight ONLY. I get mine from ft dodge. there are other brands that are probly just as good maybe even better, I have just never had any problems with them.
DO NOT give the shots with the lepto in them, under 12 weeks old. I give mine the 5 ways first couple then the 7 - 8 way.
I know that it doesnt do any good to give them shots before they are weaned, but i start mine at 4 weeks, 7 weeks, 10 weeks, then the final at 13 weeks, after that they will NEVER need another booster shot, and if your vet tells you they need one every year, he is diggin in your pocket,
and as far as shots goes, the 3 year rabbies is "exactly" the same thing as the 1 year just cost more.

I give the 8 in 1 at 8 wks and another a month later and I'm done. I don't do it in stages like they recommend. Also, never have lost a pup because of this method. I also have done it with only one shot but only with marginal pups and they have been fine. I wouldn't recommend it nor do I do this any more but I think one shot could be enough.

I used to order mine but Rocky's feed store in Brazoria has what you need  if you live in that area. He caters to the dog man because he is an old hog hunter as well as the rest of his family.

I have done that too, but was told by more than one vet, and know a guy that lost a whole litter to this. Its just not worth the risk to me, especially on a breeding that you are real excited about, cause that will be the one that gets it. Wink
That would defenitly be alot cheaper, especially on bigger litters. I got a bull dog fixin to drop any day now, might try that on a couple.

John do you knwo what shots the male pup had before you got him? I give my pups 5 way shots starting at 5 weeks old. I give a booster every two weeks until they are about 11 weeks old. ThenIi give another booster with their rabies shot at about 4 months. Then they are done until they are about a year. After that I give them 7 way shots (with Lepto). I just never give the small pups Lepto as some pups have reactions to it.

I agree about being careful where you buy the vaccines AND how you handle them. Don't get them and lay them down in the barn or on the dog pens, go off with your buddies for hours then come back and vaccinate the pups. It all makes a BIG difference.

I got the male pup at 10 weeks old, the guy said he had given them 3 7-1's.

But at least the other 2 pups I have are doing good and never showed any signs.

More than likely your pups don't have the Parvo. They probably have corona.

The 7 in 1 shots are a lot cheaper but they don't have the corona vaccine.
