Since Mr. Carnathan had a stroke in 09, he has'nt done much with his registry. he has a living will and gave his registry to john ross who runs what used to be the southern black mouth cur breeders assc. and now the american black mouth and the southern has merged and it is called the blackmouth cur breeders. Mr. Ross has takin over all of Mr. Carnathans registries. the last time i spoke with Mr Ross in late sep he still had the registry and said Mr. Carnathan is doing well and getting back into breeding but still aint to full power.

Good reading...I don't know enough about the breed to say if it's right or not but definitely worth reading...I sure would love to see some pictures of the older dogs he is talking about to see the build, confirmation, the colors, and the shape of the heads on them dogs.

my gyp was slow to start, she started workn bout 6mth old but didnt fully turn on till a yr and since iv been deployed and stationed away from my dogs, i haven't been able to finish them. she is very rough, she hunts a lil to close ( 50-200yds) dependin how fresh the sign is, she is very smart and loyal. the pup that i kept from her first litter a yr ago started at 4mths and is very rough aswell but he gets it from his dad who is the greatgranson of wright's yellow jacket. the last litter she just had in aug started on their own with out any kinda workn at 8wks. i uploaded some vids of the pups from this last litter and vids of the mom and my yellow jacket male on my facebook page.http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1782087549&v=app_2392950137#!/profile.php?id=1782087549&v=wall  if u cant veiw the vids, look me up by my email at artillery97_03@yahoo.com or by charles mann.

I was fortunate enough to meet Mr Carnathan about 25 years ago. I went to his home and bought two pups from him. I was amazed at how he had 30 dogs running around in his yard! He didnt have a single one of them tied up. Howard would start talking about his BMC line, he would talk for an hour without giving you a single opportunity to break into the conversation....lol He showed me videos of his dogs baying hog, treeing squirels and coons. He had a house full of trophies. The most amazing thing about him in my opinion was his ability to recount past breedings, how many pups came out of each litter, which lines nicked and which didnt. He in his mind remembered hundred of dogs and where they all ended up. He was a breeder before the age of computers! He had everything he had ever done written on pieces of notebook paper tucked away in binders. He is such a friendly gentleman. I encourage anyone who loves the BMC breed to find his # pick up your phone and give him a call. I havent spoken with him in a few years now and dont know for sure what lasting effects his stroke has taken on him but if anyone ever loved a breed it was Mr Howard Carnathan.

here is the website where i got this article...http://s1.zetaboards.com/Black_Mouth_Cur/index/ ....feel free to join...the majority of the ppl on there use there bmc's for coon and squirrels...there's a lot of knowledge about this breed that can be found on that website...you'll learn about why they have different color's other than yella...i know ppl are skeptical when it's not a yella dog...i got one of my gyp's from keven knierim aka yankee preacher, she's carnathan's blood and she's just a year and turning it on...she's also reversed colored...she's out of a yella gyp and red male...
