This is not a hunting story but something that happened to us this past weekend. We went to Sinton on Saturday as always. We stayed there as we were having a party for our son and our nephew and a good friend of ours. I drove to Corpus around 2 am as we went home. I got everyone out and into the house. I was planning on going back out and unloading some things but it was late and I was tired plus I just forgot to go back out and check as it was 3:30 am. My wife woke up early Sunday morning (7am) to get her medicine out of her purse. She woke me up and asked "where is my purse" and I replied that I didn't know. She asked if I got it out of the vehicle the night before and I said no. She ran to the back door and then came running back to the bedroom. She said where is my Tahoe and I said out back and she said no it's gone. I get up and run to the back and sure enough her vehicle was gone. I had the keys to her vehicle in my pocket but then she said she had left her extra key in her purse. We called the police and they came over to do a report. I sure was sick at my stomach at this point knowing that I should have checked the vehicle as I had planned. I have never felt so helpless and violated and my wife was feeling the same way. I drove all over Corpus all day Sunday hoping to find it but no luck. Monday we go to work and my wife calls me around 8 am and said the cops found her driver's license at a Midas store a few blocks from the house by a dumpster. I head that way and go dumpster diving but I find none of her items that were in her purse (all her credit cards, digital camera, etc) She had canceled all of them on Sunday. I told the officer that I felt the vehicle was still in town and he just said yea right. Well I get off work around 3 and decide to go and look for the vehicle in the area where her license was found. While I was driving in the area, I prayed for a little miracle and asked the man above to just give us some closure to this as it was really getting to us. I drove for about another 10 minutes and came up to a light. I had a red light and was waiting for the traffic to come from underneath the overpass toward us. About that time a vehicle coming from the other direction turns across in front of me and what do you know. It's my wife's tahoe with some young man driving it. My heart was pounding and I couldn't believe my eyes. I turn right in behind it and follow him to a pawn shop just a few hundred yards away. He parks the vehicle and is looking around. I go and park further down as I have my hunting stickers on my truck and I didn't want him to see my name as he knew my wife's name from the contents of her purse. He finally steps out and gets some stereo equipment from the back of the tahoe. He walks into the pawn shop. By this time, I have called the wife and told her to call the police and she kept asking me "are you sure it's my Tahoe and I said of course it is and I read her license plate to her. She keeps me on the line and calls the police and they say they are on their way. I take my old green hunting truck and block in our Tahoe. I get out of my vehicle in case the man comes out of the pawn shop. My wife is on the phone the entire time telling me not to do something stupid like going in the pawn shop after the man. She keeps telling me to keep my cool as the cops are on the way. I will tell you that that was the longest 5 minutes of my life and my heart has never beat like that even with all the hog hunting I have done. Finally a cop pulls up and sees me. I tell him the young man is in the pawn shop. He asks me if I can identify him and I say of course. We walk in the pawn shop and the punk has his back to us. I point him out and the cop grabs him. We check the vehicle and nothing was done to it. The other cops that have arrived just keep telling me that this never happens. All that was lost was her purse, digital camera and some of her makeup. All I can say is it was a miracle from the man upstairs and he still listens to our prayers.

Yea Id say that was a lil miracle, my truck was stolen one time and luckily it was on empty, they didnt get 10 miles from the house. The bad this is the police called me before I even knew it was stolen and said they had my truck out in some grape vineards wondering what it was there for.

That is truly a great miracle. However, there were two miracles that day. The first one was finding the Tahoe. The second one, if your like me, was the patience God gave you to wait on the cops to get there. I do not know if I could have waited on them to confront the punk without some sort of divine intervention! Glad things worked out for your family.

Glad you got your Tahoe back. Police frustrate me sometimes, especially with thefts. I really dont think they give a crap most of the time. Too bad you didnt let him get back in the tahoe and Castle Doctrine his arse!!!

All I can say is force necessary to detain him for the police My friend was at the beach so the keys and his wallet were hidden in his Jeep. He came back and his Jeep was gone. Three years later he got a call from the cops and they had his Jeep. When he got to the the lot he reached under the seat and his wallet was still there cash and all! The thief found the key but not the wallet.

nice to see the good guys out on top and the bad guy cuffed. wonder how long before he was back out on the street? Didn't they used to hang horsetheives in Tx? Seems stealing a man's car should fall under those same penalty

X2 You handled it perfectly... :)I know exactly how you felt when you said helpless and violated. I felt that way when my 4x4 4wheeler was stolen and the cops acted like it was no big deal.
