My nine month old pit has been around my other dogs since he was five weeks old.  never showed any signs of agression, however today he jumped on my 7 month old cur.  Now my cur has a torn up ear, right leg is messed up.  One of the worst fights ive seen.  Now my five get into it every now and again but never to this degree.  I have a 2 year old son and im thinking the bulldog wont be here after tomorrow, however i am kinda attached to him.  Any suggestions??  I desperately need advice here.  My first thought was getting him cut, but will that work?

If he's only nine months old it may very well help.

Is there a female in heat? If so it may help. I really feel your pain. I tried to fix one and then he killed several dogs in one night. Now I do not take any dog aggression that results in any injury. Dogs play rough but once they injure another dog it is over. If they will injure another dog without provocation I would never trust them with my children. But it really sucks when they are nice to you.

My gyp is not in heat.  I wasnt home when the fight started, my mom and little siblings were over while i ran out for a few.  My cur is nowhere near dominant and up until today they had a couple spats just showing who was dominant.  My bulldog is not the top dog on the yard im just wondering if them being so close in age and neither being cut is my problem.  My son got out into the yard while i was "educating" my bulldog and checking the cur, he walked right up to the pen i put him in before i even knew he was out there and was petting him with no problems.  Of course being a parent that is always in the front of my mind..  But id really like to try everything to save the dog first..

i sold a gyp that would fight any female that was around her and it made it difficult to hunt her. the gu i sold her to put her in a dog box with another female and when she startd getting aggresive, he would hit her with a cattle prod and yelling at her to stop and behave. he said she was cured after 2 time of fighting and getting prodded. i went huntin with him and he brought her and i brought the female that she always fought with. she never acted aggressive with her and they hunted well together from then on.

I've never been one to sugar coat much, so here goes......what's more important, him or your 2 year old?
I'd have culled him already.

Right on, I'd have done it on the spot! Are these dogs just running loose or in a kennel together?

I dont take any chances with my children. If you are questioning the dog now, you already know the answer. Cull ruthlessly

If I had any question about the dog being agressive toward a child there would be no question about culling. If the aggression was only toward another dog  and only once then I would make sure to show him that wasn't allowed and any time he even looked at the other dog wrong I would let him know not to do it. In most cases you can teach a dog that fighting isn't good for him..

hes never been aggressive towards anyone or anything up until this incident.  Ive got no problem culling a dog with people aggression but everyone thats ever been around this dog cant believe he did it.  Hes got a very mellow temperment which is the only reason hes still here.  I guess i dont share the same opinion as a lot of people on this issue but i want to try to fix him if i can.  Like i said before he was even good with my son when he went to the pen right after.  the dogs are penned together and generally my bulldog isnt penned.  the cur got out of his pen so im sure it was a dominance issue and the cur just didnt bow down (he is the new dog on the yard).  Ive had the bulldog out with the others since and theres no problem.  Im sure its just a time issue but i was curious if castration would speed the process up.
