I want to make sure I'm doing this all right for my dogs

Give 0.1cc per 10pounds of   Ivermectin 1% per month

Then give 1cc per 10pounds of valbazen for 3 days every month

Ok now why are people saying to mix propylene glycol with ivermectin? Helps with the dogs throat? Also how much of this for a bottle of ivermectin?

Also do you guys use valbazen all the time or do you switch between valbazen and other brand?

Thanks
Vince

Vince,

I use 1cc of the .27% Ivomec from TSC ($38 bottle) once a month for a 50 -100 pound dog.  This is the Ivomec for pigs and foxes, not cattle.  I mix it with a spoonful of wet dog food.

I just had my 6 year old dog at the vet two weeks ago and asked her to go ahead and give him a heartworm test as I was curious myself.  He was free and clear of everything, so it works for me at least.  I heard that the 1% solution is too much - doesn't hurt, but why overdose.

I'm sure there are people on this board with more knowledge about this than I, but this is what has worked for me and my 10 dogs.

Jsh thanks for the reply. Makes sense on use .27% instead of 1%. What do you do about for worming then?

I have always used the valbazen (500cc) and mix 10-15cc of ivomec into it.  Shake it up before you use it and so far my dogs have also been free and clear.  I use this on my puppies starting out around 3-4  wks old also.  I do not rotate wormers either. Been using this for 5 yrs.  I have asked 3 of our local vets and all have said that is a good worming recipe...Others on here also have good worming recipes but this is what has been working for me.

I have always given roughly a 1/2 cc to the pups until around 4 mths old.  Then i bump them to 1 cc.  For adult dogs I give them 2 cc.  ( all dogs are around the 55-60 lbs range.  I have one catch dog that is about 85-90 and I give him 2 1/2 - 3.  I do not have a certain cc amount per lbs. of dog.  This is what I do and have great success.  Adults get wormed once a month.  Sometimes during the summer months I may hit them every 3 wks. Puppies get wormed every 2-3 weeks.  Hope this helps.

I only give .1 cc (1/10) of the .27 ivermectin that equals 270mcgs, which if you look at heartguard is almost exactly what is in a large dog dose.

The propylene glycol is only to dilute the 1%, it just mixes with it well so you can get an accurate dose.

.1cc of 1% is plenty for the whole dog.
