I think the key is a dog that knows when to to put his mouth on a hog and when to back off. Only putting enough pressure on the hog to hold it there. On the same note, i wouldnt feed a dog that NEVER puts his mouth on a hog. nothing like walking two miles to a dog bayed on a tiny shoat!!!

A dog that won't put its mouth on a hog better have ALOT of bottom cause the hog will decide when and where it wants to go.

It's 50/50 from what i've experienced... some stop, some run harder.

The dog didn't shut the hog dog in the blown down, root ball, creek bank, etc... the hog chose where to stop. Wink

Whether rough or loose, bottom is the key where the hogs run real bad.

you just need to find a style off hunting that you like and works. and dont worry about what other people think cause there not feeding them. if your happy thats all that matters. me i run veryrough dogs they mite bark once or twice and all 4 will catch, ask the guys that hunt with me they dodnt run to far and my dogs dont get cutt up bad or not even a scratch but i personaly dont like to chase hogs to far but my style is hood hunting , all styles work just find what fits you good luck
