Seems like the hawks have really cranked up the hunting since the recent cold snap around the house, picking up a rooster and couple of hens. Just curious if any of you have ever lost a pup this way?

I saw a hawk flying over 2920 once with some kind of bichon frise or something squirming.

My brother lost a 3 pups before he finally saw who was doing the snatching. Was a big ole Hawk.

Pups are easy prey for hawks and owls and they will come around regularly for a quick and easy meal.

When we lived in town there was this lady that lived down the street and a hawk tried to pick up her pom. It would have gotten the dog if she hadn't been watching it. Ever since then I always have to watch when I let my min pin out.

Sucks too because most hawks and owl's are protected by one law or another, you can get a hefty fine if ya get caught injuring one..

LOL!! yall make thes 12 hr shifts much more tollerable. I wish mine were only 12 hrs. I have 48 hr shifts and this is my saving grace. But you're right this forum makes it go by that much faster. As for the birds, a friend of mine just lost a small dog to one. |

Just string fishing line vertical around the area the puppies are two to three feet apart. If any large birds try to attach the puppies their wings will hit the strings. At night the strings can't be seen and they are hard to see during the day. If one should happen to get injured I do know animal rescue people who will rehabilitate the bird and release them in a safe area. I can also assist in capturing the injured animal if need be. It is not necessary to kill the birds. When they hit the strings they will avoid the area in the future.

thats good info dub, ive always used bird netting to protect my vegtable garden and as a bonus, i sometimes catch doves; they go great with my jalapenos  |

Get about a 12 ft post, put it in the ground, and paint the top of it white about 2 ft down, place steal trap on top Not tellin anybody to do this, and not sayin i ever done it... just sayin |

we had a tea cup chihuahua get ripped to shreads in a few seconds and the hawk tried to fight me for the dog...... needless to say i won but the dog was long gone..  |

You can also use flashing lights to protect larger areas at night. Like the road flashers. The flashing lights prevent the owl's eyes from focusing at night. You want the hawks and owls to eat the mice and snakes just leave the pets and livestock alone.
