No more hunting hogs with dogs in Jones Crossing or any government land around Lake Proctor.  I've been running dogs on this land for over 30 years but not any more.  They had a draw hunt for shot guns only hunting for hogs a while back and did not tell any of the locals.  16 hunters were chosen season starts January 3 and runs into March.  Our government really sucks.  They screw up everthing they get involved in.

x2 I have yet to understand how they allow hunting by any legal means and then exclude one type of hunting. I sure hate to hear that about you hunting spot. I really wouldn't doubt if they don't outlaw all dog hunting on public land next.

what the hell, where did they do the drawing out of?  Lots of people hunt down there that dont get on this board, I guess we better spread the word.  I wonder if they are gonna enforce anything if you wind up over there because you know that is where the hogs head if you jump them anywhere around there.  Man, that country is going to blow up b/c there is no way a few guys with shotguns will even put a dent in the population down in that thick country. Thanks for the heads up.

Stickem,

Bottom line is it is not your land.  It's the government's.  Yeah it stinks, but we need to have higher standards than that so our kids can hog hunt when they grow up.  If you don't have the land to hunt on with permission, then you don't need to be hunting with dogs.

Just lost 5k acres due to poachers.  Old widow that owned it got fed up and shut the whole thing down.  Don't blame her either.

These are the battles the LSWDA will be gearing up to challange,, We all need to join some sort of  working/hunting dog groups in your state and if  your out of state and have the funds join others also these battles are just getting started  , Battles won  can be used to fight in other states as well as other battles for hunting rights with dogs in Texas

As for trespassing  in not the way  to win friends  or ever get invited to hunt a place  as was said we need  to hold ourselves to a higher order to assure we get those right and not be a problem to law enforcement but a helping hand

we have a lots of younger eyes on this website and we do not need talk about poaching tespassing ,ect...

its probally going to take petitions and lots of talking to the  operation authority  of lake proctor,  Corp of Engineers, TPWD  enough sqeauking  and the wheel will get the grease

Pretty damn despicable, if your serious. Can't ever tell with a "hog dog pup" with 3 posts, if it's serious or not.
I'll tell you this, admin won't tolerate outlawish behavior on this forum.
If your serious, I hope you get caught and get burried under the jailhouse.
Statements like that are what is killing hunting with dogs.

LEON RIVER BOY, is this just the beggining of the means to exclude all dog hunting on public lands? with the SHNF issue now this around lake proctor?

Here is a bit from banning gun hunting in Public Lands,
Found this on US Sportsman alliance
http://www.ussportsmen.org/page.aspx?pid=2601

Maybe can get them on board as a NATIONAL effort to stop the Hunting Bans in all National Forrests?Huh?

Forest Service to Consider Banning Gun Hunting
in Parts of Huron-Manistee National Forest

(Columbus, OH) - As a result of a recent anti-hunting court ruling, the U.S. Forest Service is starting a formal review of its Management Plan for the Huron-Manistee National Forest to consider banning hunting with firearms in some areas.

In September, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Forest Service’s regulations required that it consider banning hunting with guns on lands designated as “semi-primitive.” The Court found that the noise associated with gun hunting could harm the quality of the recreational experience of hikers, backpackers, and cross county skiers.

Just as troublesome, the Court ruled that the Forest Service was required to consider closing these areas to gun hunting in places where there is other public, non-Forest land nearby that is open to gun hunting. This could require the Forest Service to close lands currently open for gun hunting when other state or federal hunting lands are opened.

The court ruling has prompted the Forest Service to start a formal review of the Huron-Manistee Management Plan. Primarily, the review will focus on whether or not hunting with guns should be banned on the “semi-primitive” areas.

Sportsmen will be given opportunities to submit comments to the Forest Service throughout the review process.

“This court ruling is a major threat to hunting on these lands and across the country,” said Rob Sexton, USSA vice president for government affairs. “Anti-hunters will likely use this ruling to try and force the Forest Service to ban gun hunting on other Forest lands.”

On October 26th, the U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance and a coalition of nineteen other leading conservation groups sent a letter to the Forest Service requesting that it rewrite the regulations the Court used to render the anti-hunting decision.

The USSA will keep sportsmen apprised of when and where they can submit comments on this issue.

If you stand back at look at all the things that happened with public land since the late 80's lets say privlidges have definitely been on the decline on public land.  I don't understand it or know what what is driving it but it is going to be a shame when you cant use the land for what is was set aside for.  I just bought two squirrel dogs and look forward to hauling them to the SHNF to hunt off my horse with but at the rate we are going they will be outlawing that there next.  I can go dump tree dogs on opening morning of deer season if I want to but I cant run hog dogs, after deer season, for fear of running deer.  Someone please explain  Undecided

Just wanted to make sure we all understand, government land, we, you, me, all of us are the government we have someone in place that is suppose to look after the people he/she represents.  I'm not saying you should hunt it because it is yours(government), I'm saying contact Rep./Sen., etc. and regulate it in a manner that many different types of hunters can utilize it.  Just saying it is our land we just need the right representation.

There are some people that are working on trying to get straight answers from "govertment" and who is making these decisions and why and alot of the ansers from the "ones in charge" is passing the buck back and fourth, its kind of ridiculous to try and get a straight anser so "WE THE PEOPLE' can do anything about it, But maybe if more people were to get involved and make enough noise, We the people, could get astraight answer to get the right representation!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT SALT FLATS, I AGREE WITH YOU IT IS "OUR LAND" but it seems like we don't have much to say about it.
