When out hunting with a group today and took my pups a  9 month old lacy and  two 14 month old curs.
On all their previous hunts, the pups stayed by the 4wheelers most of the time and only ventured out a few yards. They would also not honor a bay, but they do great in a pen.  I was getting ready to give up on the older ones and get rid of them before they ruined my lacy dog. Well today was different. We got to the 1st hog right after someone else stuck him. My pups latched on to the head of the dying boar. That must have triggered them because on the next one they followed the strike dogs and as we were running to the bay, we heard squeeling. It was awesome to see my two curs hanging on to each ear and my lacy barking his but off. It was a big fat sow. I dont want them to catch, but I was just happy they finally figured out what they are supposed to do in the woods.
Well about 20 minutes later all the dogs take off, and after about a mile chase, all the dogs returned except one of my curs. I only had a tracking collar on my lacy and it really sucks that I have taken care of and been very patient with these dogs and when they finally seemed to "get it" I lose one!!!!!

I left my shirt and some food/water. She has a hunting collar with my number, so I hope she is on my shirt in the morning or that someone will find her.
Im just afraid she crossed a fence line and got in the line of sight of a deer hunter.
Im ordering a garmin right now, cant believe she went from not leaving my sight to not coming back!

wish me luck

Hopefully your dog will show up.  Tracking collars are very effective, saves dogs, saves time, and are a necessity.

Good luck.

I FOUND HER!!!!!!!!

I got out of work early and went over to take a look.
She was laying on the shirt I left on the ground.
I was wearing a long sleeve long john type shirt and then a shirt and hoodie over that cuz it was cold.
I left the long john shirt since I figured it had the most scent on it.

I was begining to give up, but leaving a tshirt is definitley the way to go.

GREAT GREAT NEWS DUDE!! I am so happy you found her. The not knowing is always the worst feeling. I remember when I lost Lacee, it was awful that the guy just left her layin, and didn't know where she was so I could go get her and bury her... I still hate him to this day... totally heartless.

Yellowdog. A buddy of mine was short a bay dog, so I let him borrow her for a weekend hunt he was going on. The story he gave me was "We were headin back to the truck at about 10 am, dogs got on a big sow, she took off runnin. Most of the dogs stayed with her for about 1/2 a mile, then 3 of the 4 bay dogs got hot (it was June) and quit. Lacee didn't know what the word quit meant, and also didn't understand "bay" LOL, she wore a vest cuz she would honor a bay for about 10 mins, but if you didn't get there with the CD, she would grab her a bite and keep it stopped.... Lacee never stopped runnin, literally, until her heart burst. The guy said he was about 200 yards away tryin to keep up, and one min she was runnin, the next she piled up. By the time he got to her, she had already stopped breathing. He took the vest off her, and left her laying.

To say the least, no one, not even my dear sweet momma, will ever take my dogs huntin without me.
