Me and a buddy took out a couple of dogs last night and I took my new BMC that I haven't had a chance to hunt. He's around a year old and I was real impressed how he hunted........until we had to cross a creek. He stopped at the creek and just barked. The water was about waist deep and my buddy had a pup doing the same thing. They just wouldn't cross it. Is there something I can do to fix this? How many people have had this problem? Any and all advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Give him a nice little push, and he will start to pick it up... Ive had several dogs like that, but they all came around...alot of the time if we just left them over there they would finally jump in and cross...

Lol I thought about pushing him in but I've only had him a week and he's still getting used to me. I wasn't very happy that I got wet and my dog wouldn't though. LOL

I put a vest on him and he's never wore one. Wonder if that made him hesitate?

I tried to hunt Festus with a bay vest when i first got him, and he wouldnt cross water with it on unless he was right on a hog. But once i took it off of him, he had no problem with the water.....that could have been the issue with your dog.....

Mine is coming around pretty well little goofy but hates a hog with a passion. I have quite a bit of patience with a slower starter but agree too tight for me

He's got some scars and they guy I got him from said he would try to catch if the hog breaks so I'd like to keep a vest on him. But at the same time its gonna be tough to hunt him somewhere he doesn't have to cross water. I thought about leaving the vest on him in his pen for about a week or so and see if he will get used to it. Not sure if that will work.

You could probably try one of those boar bibs from WBUSA and see if he would do better in it. Its only like 60 bucks.

I have a buddy with a bmc that will by cross a creek unless he's behind a hog. Many times we have had to go get him bc he was Sittin on the other side of the creek. He just don't like water.

Did you ever try leaving a vest on Festus while he was in his pen. I've heard of people doing this with their catch dogs to get them used to it. Might have to try a boar bib if that don't work though.

No i never tried it. I just let him run without one. he would get cut every now and then, but he would be caught on the opposite ear of the CD, and the CD would be cut up and Festus wouldnt have a scratch.... Truthfully it suprised me he never got cut bad or killed, guess he just new what he was doing!
