I just bought my first hog dogs about two weeks ago and this was the first time I got to take them out.   I met up with some buddies on the neighbors ranch and headed out from the pens.  About 100 yards out we let out the long range strike dogs. As soon as he hit the ground he was off and running. We following behind in through the open pastures until he opened.  All the dogs hit in and were baying in the middle of a wheat field.  At first we thought they had a bunch of yearling cattle bayed but as we moved through the fog it was obvious that there were several pigs bayed.  There was propbably 20 of all sizes.  They bayed in the middle of the field for about 10 minutes before one brave soul decided he would make a run for it.   He didn't make it far and had 3 dogs latched on.  They got him stopped and my biddy ran in to flip him as I was pulling the piggin string from my saddle.  I went to tying and noticed really quick that my string wasn't going to be long enough so I decided to stick him.

About an hour later we bayed a different group of 20 or so.  They all scattered at the sametime a we had a hard time getting to the only one we bayed.  It ran out through the field and the neighbor shot it.

If any one knows a technique for situtations when your dogs bay 20 please let me know.  We weren't really expecting anything b/c I didn't know how the dogs would do.  If they all break at the same time it is tough to get all the dogs on the same hog to get it shut down.

I would love to see pics of the dogs baying a group of hogs like that. I know that you must be proud of your dogs.

Depends... do you want the hogs out alive? If not, the answer is easy.

We have had it happen to us and we drove them to the cattle pens on the property! One time we could not get them to the cattle pens from all the cross fences but we were able to get them in the owners iron fence yard and close the gates!

One time had it happen and I caught a sow and a boar came and hit me right in the chest while I was trying to tie her!
