I might make some people mad about some of my statements but come on! If I see any type of hunting dogs on the road I try to pick them up and find there homes! Most never have a collar I call around and ask and someone will call and Identify the dog and I will give it back! But before they go they get a good little preaching about how cheap a Collar with a name and phone number is and I am pretty harsh on them about it! If you own a hunting dog BUY you a Collar with a name plate they are between $8 - $12 ! If you are hunting somewhere you don't want people to know that is your dog then stop hunting! If you can not afford one then stop hunting! I personally think it should be a law if you have a hunting dog then the dog should have an Identifacation collar on it! Take the credit for what you dogs do and the land they are on!
I am sure Krystal UglyDog understands where I am comeing from I have seen her post the most as she puts her number on all the cut collars that she has sold in the past! She has been great about helping people get there dogs back but hell why should someone be calling her when they should be calling the owner of the dog!
I have picked up several that has had nameplates on them and the guys were very respectful hunters! The ones that do not have them seem to be alittle off on there hunting!
So be a good hunter and buy you some collars with nameplates!

I ordered 25 name plates with my name, cell phone number, and reward if returned on them. I keep those, some of the brass fastners and about half a dozen extra collars in my barn. I went and bought a leather punch pliers set a few years ago and with all this I bet I have $75 or less invested but if a dog stays here they have a collar with a name plate on it. In the big scheme of things it is the cheapest thing you will ever do to prolong your dogs time with you. I had a kid call me a few years ago just down the road from where we had turned out saying he had found one of my dogs. Now a tracking collar would have taken me to her but I still paid the kid $20 because I figure he did his part to try and help so I better do mine. I would like to think that kid learned a small lesson that day about doing the right thing.

X3.... I like the idea of putting Reward if Found on them. Never thought of that. I couldn't put a price on my dogs so I wouldn't have any problem paying a reward to get them back.

I agree. Any dog worth taking to the woods is worth a 10 dollar collar..

I try to do business with in state folks as much as possible, but there is an online dog supply that sells the coated nylon collars I like with a name tag for $4.95. Shipping is about $5 , but if you order several, it averages out to a few cents a collar.
I have my name and # on all my dogs and on my cut collars.

You can have dog tags made at Walmart, they have a vending machine that makes them. I have the orange DayGlo collars on my dogs and I write my cell number with a Sharpie just in case the the Brass tag comes off.

The only thing about those vending machine ones, they are engraved and after time it wears off. If you get the ones that are stamped they don't ever wear down.

Tell them Chance, everybody including myself needs a good reminder sometimes. New Years go double check the wear and tear on your equipment and replace rivets, snaps and buckles as needed.
New Years usually has alot fireworks that freak dogs out, be aware that this is another time that dogs are known to twist themselves up and and choke on chains, slip collars, climb fences, and get anxiety that will cause even a smart dog to get lost.
MOre tips on this on the lswda.org main page.

Any dog worth turning out is worth putting a name plate on. My 2 puppies in the yard have em. Mine have my name, house & cell numbers on them. It's not hard to do.

Before I had a tracking system I had several dogs returned that way. It's the cheapest insurance you can buy and it's just the responsible thing to do. Good topic Chance!
