Hello all.I'm new to this site and I hope I'm doin this right.Anyway,I live in south Louisiana and we have a REALLY bad problem with biting flies.Sometimes the tips of my dogs ears will scab over because of the scratching.Any suggestions on a product that I don't have to apply every 2-3 days and dosen't cost an arm and a leg?And how do about mosquito controll?Any help would be great.

I zip-tie the medicated cattle ear tags to the dogs collars for the flies. Welcome to the boards!

could you use the tags on PUPS??? the flies have really gotten bad since this rain. i keep the pen clean but they're still really bothersome.

On severel hunting dog websites u can order these bugs that have no side effects on the dogs or grass etc that eat the fly larva and in one or two breeding cycles there wont be any more flys-for 10 dogs a year supply is about 100 bucks- if you can't find any send me a pm and i will give you company i use- its popular with horses as well--welcome aboard

I am certainly going to give those tags a try. Cheaper than Frontline for one dog, and will do the whole kennel!
Any side effects noticed?

So do you recommend leaving them outside when the dogs are in the house? I might hang them around the patio instead of the citronella candles(just joking).

I pour a few gulps of vinegar in my dogs drinking water. It is supposed to be good for the dogs, it keeps the fly numbers way down and will keep the mosquito larvae out of their drinking water to meaning cutting down on mosquitos! I hope this works for you if you decide to give it a try.

piranha is good, i use it on my horses and if i see flies on the dogs i use it on them too. just cover there eyes when you spray it on their face and head. I use the spray but the spray and wipe is good too.
