Is there any way to kill a skunk with out shooting it? I exercise my dogs at a school by my house and a skunk has appeared and my 8 mth old pup is getting very good at finding it. I have not started her on hogs yet, should I shock her off it? How do you get the smell off of them? Thanks, JT

hydrogen peroxide and tomatoe juice bath. They also sale some stuff called skunk off that I hear works pretty good. Shooting is bout the only way to kill one unless you want to get sprayed or trap it and leave the trap in the same spot. I imagine it'd die without food or water for awhile. That's all I could come up with. I'll leave the other question for the guys that have trained many pups with many more years experience then myself.

Once mike killed one with a two foot long stick and didn't get sprayed. He is just that good.

Softball and Baseball starts up pretty soon, it hangs out right by the 3rd base dugout. Maybe the coach will get the school district to get it.

Get a good pellet gun. I can and have lit a match with one. Sit back and zap it in the head. If you hit it right it dies too fast to spray. If you are off you will know You should be able to get It about twenty to thirty yards out. Pellets lose velocity quick.

Get a sling shot, wisker bisket, and a arrow! It will get the job done quietly. I have one I built and it works good ! I use it for shooting critters that get in my dog food at night when everybody is asleep and I dont wanna wake my wife up with a gun!

my dad trapped skunks and civet cats when he was a kid. he said good head shots with cb's or shorts and they dont spray, but would with 22lr. i have heard people say thet they dont have the wind to spray if shot through the lungs, but i dont know. most common method i have heard of is to live trap them, then carry a blanket or tarp in front of you and lay it over the trap. supposedly they wont spray when covered. then carry trap to where you can shoot it, or just throw the trap skunk and all in a pond.

It works, I keep a rope on the live trap and usually go throw trap and all in the pond until it's dead. You have to be calm and slow though or the end result isn't pleasant

A guy I work with traps skunks all the time. He traps em in a live trap. And one side of it is solid so you can walk up to it without the skunk seeing you. He then takes a big black trash bag and eases it over the trap once it's completly covered he then pick up the trap and takes it to a big water tank. He then eases the trap into the water still wrapped in the black trash bag and drowns the skunks. They hardly ever spray and if they do it's under water and it doesn't smell to bad at all... I have watched him do this several times but I usually don't stick aroun to much when he is dealn with em lol

reckon stock will drink after a skunk sprayed in the water? Dad ran his trapline along an old rock fence row on his way to and from grade school. (back when kids walked to school) they finally told him to quit trappin skunks, or just quit comin to school my Mom had a pet skunk when she was a kid. they caught it as a baby. it hadnt been de-scented and she said it never sprayed or even smelled bad. they turned it loose when it got grown.

a lot of trappers use a pole made from pvc pipe with a syringe on the end and put acetone in the syringe and inject the skunk with it. sounds crazy but they say it works good. never tried it myself, i always just shot them and came back for the trap in a few days if they sprayed.
