All that I'm hoping is that this is the Discovery Channel's way of "easing" the public into hog hunting.... maybe they're scared to show truly efficient hog doggers just yet.... Too much death in one show might freak "Joe public" out... Josh, the Dane is a joke. Good thing he's flashy lookin', that's the only thing he's got goin' for him. You can do better than that brother...

EFFICIENT hunting? I don't think "chasing" one hog then having to wait until the next night is very efficient Well the only good thing this show has done in my opinion is scare the heck out of anyone that is not a dog hunter. Rabid beasts carrying "anthrax, yes anthrax"..... I digress it also shows that hog dogs don't cross barbwire fences.

Tcolt,
With all the talk I've heard him tell, I expect a lot more. Some people obviously have lower standards. I'll leave it there for now.

Tcolt,
The first hog in Florida with the dogs caught and the squealing hog as the highlight, then the dane and his belly cut being the next highlight... I honestly don't think the general public is ready for that. More an issue with the editors than the actors.

The thing that seems to be missed is, each show shows ten min of probably over 100 hours of film. They sit there and mix and match everything to try and tell whatever story they want. Those two hunts that they showed probably consisted of film cut from 5+ hunts. Some of that may have not even been on the same ranch, that is just the way this type of "video industry" works. My point is, we are watching edited film of hunts that I can garentee you were probably much different so were not really getting the story even though (hollywood come kill me now) it is spose to be reality TV. Who really gives a dang how they act or what there dogs do, although one dog handlin a 300+ boar without much trouble seemed pretty good to me (even though he didnt use bay dogs OMG ) , as long as long as they dont make us look bad to the publics eye.

Tcolt, all editing aside, that Dane is not living up to the hype. Period. And he is definatley not using his nose.
I know Discovery is showing what they want, but some things can not be covered up.

The cut was a barbed wire cut so I dont really think thats going to freak anyone out. And the pigs that were trapped and got a back leg grabbed were squealin too, is the general public not ready for that?

The dane is a joke... he obviously has gotten used to them finding the hogs with the light and him just running em down and catching em, he doesn't use his nose from what i've seen, i most certianly would be feeding him the 50 lbs of dog food he probably eats a week... JMO
The show is a joke, they need to come to east texas and see how some old timers do it

I feel bad for bashing the Hog whisperer last week. He put more pork on the ground than both groups of doggers combined and he tied them all!
Riddick is a heck of a catch dog in my book.

Tcolt, You have a Dane puppy don't you? Josh treated my buddy very fairly on a breast plate. Because of that I wanted to buy into his beliefs, but after watching the past 2 episodes, I just flat don't think he knows half what he thinks he does. If for some miraculous reason I was able to shine a hog, at the very minimum my dogs better run it. If he did not have the nose, brain, and desire to work it out on his own ( and they insist on hunting him), they should have walked over to where the hog was, snapped their fingers, and sent him in. Simply crazy to come back later.

I dont know if yall were watchin the same show as me but I dont ever remember seein that big sob in the spotlight.... and if he is sooooo used to watchin the spotlight why didnt he catch the first hog, looked like to me the light did more in confusing him than it did in helpin him atempt to catch that first hog...

Tcolt, How many people only watched the highlight during commercial break, then found out a dog was cut and refused to watch the rest of the show, so they never found out it was a barbed wire cut.... I bet more than we want to think about. Heck, the reel they showed, Krystal, sure seemed freaked out by the little cut... I know my mom would not have stayed tuned.to see the cut footage, therefore she would not have heard the explanation.
Now I am not picking on your friends.... I am saying I think the issue is with the editing...
This show being on discovery as opposed to a hunting channel puts it in the spotlight for a lot more live. And AR type....
As for the trapper and the squealing hog.... I didn't say anything about trapping, I am talking about hog dogging here.

And that is probably why it is better to have josh on the show than most of us haha... if you remember correctly they arent spose to cross that fence, that is someone elses property. What he was doin not callin the dog back right away, I dont know, but like I said before, that was all film from several hunts that they put together to make their story so it may have not gone exactly like that. No I dont have a dane puppy lol, but if they will hold a big a$$ hog like that Ill sure a heck take one !

Tcolt, To answer yor question as to why he did not catch the spotlighted pig, "because he appears to be slow and clumsy". Running fast in the wide open, and being quick are two completely different things.
