The garmin astro with the dc30 collars have worked best for us. The reasons are that we can pin point our dogs location and with the mapping system, we can figure out the best route to get to the dogs faster. Plus when they get too far to hear them bay or if the wind is blowing hard and we cant hear them, the garmin shows when they are bayed.

Best tracking system...

Radio systems, I like quick track, but have heard good things about wildlife too.

Gps systems, I like Garmin, only other I am aware of is.Tinyloc, but have not heard any good.feedback to justify the cost.

I run garmin gps and quicktrack on my dogs.

i have a quick track and a garmin, i havent used my garming much but i think im gonna like everything except the distance, and the garmin collars dont work under water, but as far as the quick track its hard to beat, its a good policy to run another type of collar with the garmin just in case, learned this from past experiences but the garmin and quick track are my 2 choices

tracker maxima is good as it is an all in one unit meaning the box and the attenna are in one smaller peice that fits on your belt and is easy to use, you can get them to where they track five frequencies and have memory for up to 25 collars.

I don't know what's best, but heres what I use.

I use both a Garmin DC-30 and a telemetry collar on each dog.

The telemetry unit I have is a quick shot antenna with a yaesu box.  The telemetry collars are wildlife, Quick track, and Johnson.
