I had a hunter fly in for a hunt this week. He is from Germany and living in Ohio. He has hunted boar all over the world but had not taken one with a spear and I told him I would fix him up. We hit the pasture at 5:00 and had hogs on the wheat. I took AJ and my two Stags. AJ winded the sounder from 1/2 a mile out and rolled to them. I sent the Stags when AJ was half way to them. AJ and Curly caught a sow and Stormy ran down a small one himself. My hunter got to stick her with the spear. We had hogs running everywhere and sent AJ into some brush from down wind.

He worked the wind and made a nice bay on a small bunch of hogs. Hogs broke and the race was on. I sent the stags to help and I had something happen that I have never seen. AJ joined by Stormy caught a sow on a frozen tank. I was scared to death but headed out on the ice with my hunter and the ice held. Another nice sow stuck and on ice.

Great hunt to start the weekend three more days to go.

Thanks,
Paul T

Paul you always post some neat pictures with a heck of a story attached. Walking on a frozen tank ranks right up their with flying in a helicopter with an Indonesian pilot in my book! All you can think about is going down!

Great hunt and pictures!

That's pretty cool. Was the guy just unsure bout the knife or wanted to do the spear?

There is a lot of history in Germany regarding hunting boar with spears in the old days and he really wanted to have a go with a spear. He is a good friend and is the one who picked out the spear that I carry from time to time. They can be handy expecially if you want to stick one from a distance while on thin ice... Grin We will be hunting the canyon edge tomorrow and he will get some work with the knife, you don't want to be climbing down the rock face with a spear.

Haha, new drive shaft should be delivered to the house today so hopefully Ill have it done before Lindsays flight lands  Shocked , goin with a one piece so I dont have this problem again. Fair weather is right, you have no idea how ready I am for spring! I can handle the cold and snow, but when you throw this west texas wind on top of it, Im not used to that. Heck, I gotta walk around with my tow chains around my ankles so my skinny azz dont blow away!

Just tell Paul you want to start huntin all your dogs and to leave his at home, that way there will be PLENTY of pigs left over for me  Grin haha, yall stay warm and safe, and Im gonna go ahead and claim your "house dog" if you fall through any iced over ponds!
