I have a finished CD that we're using right now but I am trying to buy another CD prospect right now(blue brindle bulldog gyp) that has never seen a pig at about 11 mo old and am wondering what ways everyone else uses to start them to catching on an ear or jaw.  I have always bought started CD in the past and would be open to any guidance on how to train her to catch right.

Just show it a managable size pig in a pen and see what happens.  You may need to put a baydog or another bulldog on it to get them fired up that first time.

Most bulldogs will naturally go for the ear. If it catches the wrong place, break it off and put it on the ear and turn the hog back loose.  You may want to repeat this process a time or two to make sure it knows where to catch before heading to the woods.

Once you feel the dog is ready for the woods, start sending it behind your old dog.

i have found that if u put a cd in a pen with out a bay dog thereit is harder to get them to go to a bay so i show them a hog and when i that went they r ready i take them to the woods a let my finshed dog catch and then send them in to the bay
