My neighbor Scott had some hunters in from out of state and they wanted to try a dog hunt this afternoon. Scott, Ross and I headed to one of Scott's rough pastures with the hunters looking for a good boar. I rode my mule and took Jessie, Griz, and Girl, all Plott x Catahoulas, and I had Curly along to catch. Scott and Ross brought some dogs as well.

I put down the Plott cross dogs and headed up a draw and got into some real good sign. Jessie took a track and went about a mile from the bottom of the canyon out the top. It took quite a bit to get out and up to the bay. Jessie, Griz and Girl had a real nice dry sow held up and were baying nice and lose so I got some good pics. Ross's dog Boogie showed up and caught straight away and I stuck her because the hunters on foot were still 20 minutes away.

We rolled out and Jessie took a track off the canyon and worked it for about a mile and came bayed. He had no help and got beat. I put him on the truck and headed to where he had been with Griz, Girl, and Scott and Ross's fresh dogs. Griz rolled out and hit the track and was joined by Girl and the others. They had a good bay going a couple draws over and I rode to them. Curly was running down and I was not sure what was up because I had not heard a squeal but when I crossed a saddle I could see Curly was caught hard on a real tough boar with some good teeth and the boar was putting up a real good fight. His holding style was perfect and he held for quite some time. I got the boar legged and a young hunter from Iowa got to stick his first hog.

Thanks,
Paul T

Looks like ya'll had a lot of fun.  Those are great looking dogs.  I'm a big fan of a good mule and that one sure is pretty.  Best of luck in the future!
