Had a minute ta take a few shots of the gang... Young Whaler... defenitely got his momma's chuckle head..  Showin' good hunt thus far... but defenitely leaning towards bein' another headhunter I'm afraid...  They all know EXACTLY where my hog pen is in the woods at all times  Aunt Snappa keeps the little demons humble... The bunch of 'em spend 24/7 whippin' each other's ass out in their paddock... defenitely feel it contributes to a better athlete on a hunt than a pen kept dog...  |

They are looking good Noah. But they will look better when they get a few scars..... Every Florida cur should have scars of some kind...without it they just don't seem like the real deal!! LOL I really like the way the black dog (Snappa) is built too. Right size, heat tolerant....if I wasn't trying to get AWAY from the rougher dogs I may have had to talk you out of her...I have a sneaky suspicion that a cross between her and Monkey would produce some real good close to medium range, rough, stop them quick dogs ideal for hunting smaller tracts........... Just not sure I could afford the vet bills!!! |

FINALLY!! Man those are some beautifully built dogs. I agree on the paddock too, it's nice if you have enough area for them to regularly exercise... Especially pups and younger dogs

Thanks yall! Mark, I don't think you gonna have to wait much longer to see these little guys with some marks!!! They got way more grit than sense right now... these first 6 mnths of hunting they better hope they get lucky till they figure it out!!! Snappa's momma Mullet is one of the all time top strike dogs I've ever been around... One dog trophy hog bayin' machine... Snappa never did develope the independece to reach that level, she just needs another dog with her to work right... frustrating as it's been, she still produces hogs.. I know she's got those genetics in her though... if I can get one of these males to turn out may eventually cross them back on her, ONLY if they don't turn out too rough though... She damn sure don't need her roughness amplified I remember hunting with Snappa/Shine/Chub's father Joker yrs ago and watching him hold hogs... the dog's bite strength was incredible(he just passed away from cancer)... He gripped so hard you could hear bones breaking... alot of hogs were done for once he got aholt of 'em Joker would bay a bad one, but caught as soon as you got there... as rough as he was he lived to be over ten before the cancer got him... |

very nice lookin dogs noah... I like my mutts to run and wrestle as much as possible. all the pups i raise look cut and muscled up at 4 months old, it just seems better to me than the big butterball pen puppies i used to have. I use a radio fence system for all my dogs during the day while i am at work.

Noah, its funny because I get phone calls almost every day from people wanting rough gritty catchy dogs. I am trying to breed away from that and breed more bay. My problem has been trying to find a dog or line of dogs to cross over, that suits me but isn't that rough or gritty. As you know, most of the Fla dogs are pretty rough. I have said it time and time again, there is a fine line between being gritty enough to stop the big hogs and keep them bayed and being too gritty and getting wrecked/cut up all the time. I DON'T want RCD's....been there, done that. My ringneck Bob x Red female isn't rough at all, yet the third hog she was on in the woods got her 40+ stitches, drain tubes, etc. I had 4 dogs cut up in less than two days hunting. And I don't consider my dogs all that rough. They will catch smaller hogs but bay the big ones. They just bay tight...a little too tight at times! Hopefully your young dogs will learn to respect the big hogs before they get too much older. As far as scars on them, I am sure they are coming!! |
