Cat, bmc, ybm??

What's the best strike dog breed I love the looks of the cat but I'd rather have a dog that'll Hunt than twenty that will show. I'm not big into the hog hunting yet but I know the diffrences in a quality hound and a pot licker. I'm a hound person so if any of you hunt other breeds I'd like to know how they work for you. I like a hound bawl mouth chop tree coondog so I'd prolly like my bay dogs the same way. Who is the best breeder of cats?

I'd try talkin to peachcreek on here heard they have some pretty good stock but do know this cats are shirt to med range and mostly hotnose and silent plott hounds have a colder nose and most are long range and open so it depends on what you want to what style of dogs you want

Ok I know plotts we don't like them as coonhunting dogs cuz they are gators on a tree! But I bet that works out perfect on hogs. My luck I'll buy a plott and it'll wanna be a coondog. Lol
who breeds plott hog dogs I know where some are in north Carolina but they ain't hog dogs they look up when they bark.

larger type mtn curs are awesome hog dogs. Kemmer or original mtn curs.

WHOOOAAA WAIT JUST A MINUTE Im gonna have to dissagree, and saying that plotts as a whole are alligators is about like saying all pits are vicious killers. I have seen 10 times more walkers that are alligators at the tree. I been bear and coon huntin plotts 20 yrs, and been to more trees than i care to count with 15-20 plotts fallin on each other with no aggression. Not saying that there aint a few out there, but that drives me crazy when i here people say they dont like plotts cause the are ill and dog agressive, when most have never even owned one, just going by hearsay or judging by one dogs actions.

Just re read my post, and didnt mean to come across like a smart elleck. Where are you located?
It just all depends on the places you are hunting, and wether you are pleasure hunting, or eradication.
It all boils down to personal prefference,
full hounds = long range and mouth, lots of bottom
full cur = shorter range, no mouth, less bottom
1/2 hound 1/2 cur = any of the above
Mtn curs = any of the above
There is no 1 best breed, you just have to find out which one suits you better, might just be a mixture of all of them

D.S.B.
Kemmers are mtn curs. they broke away from the original mtn cur association in the early 1990's.
I am just saying that there are a lot of small kemmer curs out there but also some larger types. I prefer the larger type about 50-60 pounds for a male.

Thanks for the replies guys. I would get me a great Dane but it might get cut in a fence and I'd have to over react on national tv. :-) I like plotts they are pretty dogs ain't saying nothing about the breed didn't mean to offend ppl! I hunt walker dogs I'll put you under the coon when you go with me. I placed 6,7 in the ky state championship with my walker two years in a row. The only two plotts I ever hunted with balled up with each other first tree. That's my experience with plotts. But being a coonhunter I think I'm leaning towards a hound. I usually hunt solo so I'll be following the dogs as they trail trying to stay in close for when they bay so I can get in there with my bulldog gyp. Anybody who's got a good started gyp plott get up with me. I want to go hunting with the dog I ain't buying anything off the chain.

Holler at firemedic on here, He might be pretty close to you, he hunts with a feller that has some pretty good plotts.
I have a plott gyp that is really turnin the crank so far, aint run nothin but a hog, but dont want to part with her, unless you got deeper pockets than mine.
lol
Got a male plott lightly started I would part with you would just have to hunt him and see if you liked him or not.
Hogs will run alot further than a coon too
I live in east tn, might not be too awful far from you.
Shoot, i got a little of everything, cats, BMC's, plotts, mtn cur, we can hunt em all and you can decide which ones would better suit you. LOL!!
