Just came back from the vet with a small house dog... and the vet gave her panacure...the dosage is 1ml/cc for every 4lbs. for 3 days.

Was that a liquid? I have the paste, I was told by a guy that uses safegaurd, that with the safegaurd he just puts some on his finger like you would toothe paste, and lets the dog lick it off, I am wondering if that would be the same for the panacur paste? thanks for the info!

You need to check and see if the mg. is the same as the liquid. It may be a higher miligram(more consentrated) being that the paste is used on horses and not specifically dogs. Once you get a dose i would do it for at least 3 days if not 5 for pups or dogs that are over loaded with worms.

Panacur liquid is 1cc per 15lbs on the label of the bottle that I have. Also, with the safeguard, you need to know what gram tube you have, if it is cattle or horse tube a dab on the finger isn't near enough. With safe guard cattle wormer you use the amount for 100lbs of cow for every 10lbs of dog. Hope that helps. Anthony

That would be 11 mg per 100 lbs. so a 50 lb dog would need 5.5mg. My vet has told me you can't O.D. on wormer but why use more then needed. I hope my calculations are right but that's what I came up with

i just rechecked my bottle of panacure and it says 1 cc per 4 lbs...maybe the difference in strenght? Maybe a different strength. Mine doesn't give me a breakdown on how many grams of the active ingredient are in each cc on the bottle, so I can't really compare it. And yes, you do have to give either for three day in a row. The only difference is safeguard won't kill whip worms but panacur will, and panacur won't kill tape worms but safeguard will. Anthony

Panacur and Safeguard are the exact same thing....both fenbendazole. Panacur was originally (but not any longer) a prescription medication, safeguard was sold over the counter. Proper dosage of fenbendazole in dogs is 50mg/kg or 22.7 mg/lb. A 25 gram tube of safeguard contains 100mg/g of fendendazole. A 50lb dog = 50lbs X 22.7mg/lb = 1,135mg / 100 = 11.35 grams or just under a half a tube.
