you guys would rather use a male dog to hunt ? or would you preffer a female? iv got this litter of pups and every body wants a male. iv got females and they catch hogs. i no the heat deal, but im just wondering what ya thought. wats better ? cause if no body takes any females than im going to have a yard full .
with males they always have to stop and pee on every bush and females dont. i was just wondering what all of you thought

Out of the dogs ive had, the females seem smarter, the males are catchier.  I dont have a preference one way or the other, but the females ive had seemed to know which ones to try and which ones to stand back and bay

I have always had better luck with females.Seem to be smarter(learn faster) and not so bullheaded.Yea they do have their heat cycle but males seem to get into fights more and always pissin on every thing.

I enjoy hunting an all female pack, we've done it many times.

I like a female that's all business, and some seem to mature faster sometimes,,

monty i asked about 2 males because thats what i need  2 male pups out of proven stock so that i can decide which male would better suit my style of dog and possible breedings for the future, i currently run 2 BMC gyps a Plott gyp and a blue lacy/BMC cross male. i figure i would have better luck raisen 2 male pups of my liken but if nobody wants a female pup and u decide u wanna send one my way would be more than happy to try her out Grin

i run all males.. females are smarter and live longer..... but the heat cycle. sucks around boys and puppies .... i raised pits for awhile... and im done with all the pups... pups sale but not always all of them.. plus when she drops u shouldnt be huntin  her..... so with females u can be down a dog unless u have all females... then good for u... i like rough dogs that play rough with the pig....and the boys get my attention..... cause thats my boys

Most males I've been around have nasty habits. Pee on this, start a scruff over here, go back and pee over there again because another male covered it. The only male I have now has no low ones because, he will never breed and he doesn't need to be thinking about it. My females will disagree at times but not to the death like some of the males I've had in the past. Some of my best dogs have been lost to fights, it's not worth it to me. just my .02

Monty im with you, I would rather hunt a female anyday.   they only come in heat twice a year,  a male is in heat all year long.  I would get one of those females if i want so far away.

Monty,
I could use a female.  Do you expect these to be straight catch?

Females and neutered males for me.  I won't pass up a good male, but I'll darn sure chop his boys off.

Seems that my best dogs are usually males.

Anytime I have raised a pup outside of our line, it has always been a female...that way should I decide to breed I have full control.

You decrease your chances of finding a good hog dog +50%, by not hunting females.

I just got a female for the first time, and I have to say that I am really happy I did. Smart, mother instinct, dog friendly, people friendly, lots of affection, but she loves to complain (as most females do) laugh
