Without an old friend.

 Well deer seson is over and i will be hunting alot now. But i will shure miss my old stike dog(Earl).
i lost him back in oct. this year on a 200# boar in about 3' of water,broke his shoulder and cut him up bad, it was real unusual for him to get cut but he couldnt get out of the way in that water.
everyone has had a good dog or two, but not very many of us have been fortunate enough to have had a really really super dog that could go out and produce a hog,especialy up in my country where there arent many hogs, and  thats just what he could do.
Earl was an 8yr old BMC and a extra long range type dog he could wind off the truck or boat or 4 wheeler or where ever you put him ,he could find a hog.
He was a go far and stay long type of dog.
alot of you guys have hunted with Earl over the years and know what kinda dog he was.


     ,it shure is tough to go to the woods and not here him bayed way off in the distance.

sorry RIP earl 
ya i had a super dog one time a bluetick he was about 5 when he got real sick and died. when you let him out of the truck you wouldnt see him again until you got to the bay. he was the best dog we ever had and he wouldnt put a tooth on a hog. he only got cut 2 times in his life.

I've had the pleasure to hunt behind Earl several times... he's a hard one to lose.

Craig, hopefully them young ones can step up and try to fill his shoes.

 about the time you think you have plenty of dogs the next thing you know your about out of business.
i had a really nice gyp i raised out of earl that i let a freind of mine talk me out of(tried to buy her back,he wouldnt take for her , his wife brings her in the house every time it storms)  ,then i sold 2 dogs to another freind in arkansas.
now i have 1 strike dog JR, he is out of earl. Jr is 5yrs old and a good dog.
i have one Ben Jordan bred gyp(Sadie) that is bred to JR now.
the best thing is i had a litter of pups on the ground out of earl and sadie  i kept 2 females , they are 5 months old now and are going real good.

those young dogs have got some big shoe to fill, so ill keep them in the woods and see what hapens.

I have what I consider a real good catahoula and I worry about loosig her everytime I go out. It just wouldn't be the same without her. Hope to get some puppies of her soon. Good luck with your young dogs.

Been there more than once.  There are a lot of good ones out there, but not many great ones.  You will have another going good before you know it as long as they are in the woods.

I hear you on that one...I was thinking just this morning that the dog I had on the ground was running fourth string in my pack this time last year...and he's not much better.

I realized it was a tough year when in the mail I received a hand-written Christmas card from the Vet Clinic thanking me for my business.

Craig, sure sorry to hear about Earl, We were fortunate enough to hunt with yall in the past, sure like the way He hunted, and I know you gonna miss him.

I hope you will be reminded of your old friend through your upcoming pups.

You are right.
It wont ever be the same without him. The good news is with continued hunting and time spent behind other dogs you will constantly relive the good memories of the great ones that seem so few and far between like your dog Earl. Its been 16 years since I lost my best and I still relive the great memories of that dog just about every time Im in the woods.
Thank God for your time with him and keep on huntn my friend. That was the best medicine for me.

Sorry to hear that, we have two dogs like that and I know they will never be replaced, but the memories they have made and stories you will remember will outlast the new dogs that try to replace your old friend.
