i need some ideas on bait for a hog trap got an old boar coming to the feeder every night but he is a wise old dude. he went into the trap once but outsmarted my dads door design and climbed out. i fixed the trap and going to move it up the hill where the feeder is .
when i say this pig is smart i mean it he only comes to the feeder when the coons are spinning it , he has figured how to team up with them i guess .
so my #1 question is what is an irresistible bait to use to get him back in there other than corn?
and #2 since he has been coming around the other what i call the pack boars (younger group of boars that run together) and the sows have all quit hitting the feeder is this normal ? i am in oklahoma and our numbers aren't quite what you texans have but we do have a healthy population of wild hogs.

Buy a pack of large carrots put them in a bucket mix with lil water. leave in sun for a week week and half.
spread it in the trap...
Cherry Jello. in powder form pour in trap top with water....
Catfish bait....
theres several things...
anything that stinks... or smells like cherry works the best

I use Fish back bones, and/or expired doughnuts, cakes, cookies etc. You will have to see what works in your area. The same bait might not work year round. I don't trap too far from water or wet ground in the spring and summer.
You might be competing with natural food sources too. This time of year hogs are eating toxic roots to get rid of worms.

I'll bring my dogs up there and catch that boar for ya i am working on getting me some dogs together. got one bmc gyp that bays good , i went with a guy about a month ago first time with dogs and i was sold . once i get my house finished and out of city limits i will be looking for some more to complete the pack. |

Sugar worked for me got 50lbs given to me no good to eat so I tried it in a trap and caught hogs. Strawberry jello powder on corn. Molasses blocks and soured corn as well.

GRAPES!!!! My buddy has an old boar hog in a pen and he would climb a tree I do believe to get a grape....he absolutely loves 'em.

well have tried everything suggested except the steak and beer . he was coming to feeder every night at about midnight so i built trap that is a 100 ft circle with a trap door same design as before only modified a little so he couldn't climb out this time . have video of him on trail cam coming in and walking all the way around the trap will not go in it for nothing . the baits only helped to fatten the raccoons up a bit . i took the door off the trap yesterday to see if he will go in and get used to it. haven't checked the camera yet i will give about a week and see if he starts going in then i will put the door back on.
so my next question is does anyone want to coon hunt in shady point area of oklahoma? and if anyone want to come up and help me out with this hog you are welcome as long as i can go with you. no worries about the neighboring properties as i have permission to hog hunt there as well.
p.s. all coons are completely free of charge and there are enough for
everyone i don't hunt them.

|
Try some white vinegar poured on top of your corn with the trap sprayed down with diesel. Make sure you put out a butt load of corn so coons and crows get theirs. It works sometimes on the ole trap smart ones. Good luck.

Yea if you poor diesel on the corn nothing else will eat it. Also try so used oil or hydraulic fluid just pour it in the ground and idk what's in that hydraulic fluid but they keep coming back and walerin in it!!

i had a group of pigs that wouldnt come into a trap, and an ol man told me to pour root beer, a cream soda or big red over the corn, and put shrimp (catfish bait) with it so i did that and the next day had 8 pigs in the trap

i hunt and trap in north west louisiana i have had really good luck with corn soak in diesel the diesel keeps most the other bs out of corn and also rotten shrimp or crawfish left overs after been cooked but its hard for them the resist the diesel corn

hell i thought for sure i would have some takers on the hunt . i was going to try the diesel corn had read that somewhere but never heard of anyone trying it plus my dad thinks it will run off his precious deer

the diesek corn s only good in the summer.they role in it to kill lice and flies its like there dewormer\bug spray.dont use sour corn.use jello coverd corn or sow or boar urine.tie it up in the back and sprqy it on a scent pad,and place corn under it,but if its a big rank boar like u said,best thing would be boar urine.
