Rex, Darrell and I made a run this morning mainly to check out a new place.  The place joins another that we've been hunting and lately there hasn't been much activity.  This morning wasn't much different...covered lots of ground with nothing to show for our efforts.  Having the new camera handy while out scouting, I was able to get a few shots of where hogs have definatly been in the past.  How much rubbing does it take to nearly rub a railroad tie corner post in half?  Down the way we also found a section of creek where almost every tree was mudded up.  We'll be hunting this in the future!

About noon and not wanting to start the year off skunked, we decided to head down the road to a place we call "The Swamp".  Lots of hogs here, but your almost guaranteed to get wet.  Within minutes of turning out, hogs were running out of the woods a ways down from where the dogs had gone in.  We knew the dogs were at work.  We tracked the dogs, and it appeared they were a ways down the brush.  We got closer, and I thought I could barely hear some grunting.  A closer listen, and the sounds told me something was up.  We headed that way with a bulldog and when we got closer I realized one of my dogs was caught on a pretty decent sow.  She wasn't fighting or squealing, but he was hung on her ear and they were walking around together.  Rex turned in his bulldog, and the game was done.  While on our way, we also could hear another bay in the distance.  The second hog broke and a LONG way down was finally able to shuck the dogs.  They finally came in, and we called it a day.

Here's my attempt at a little footage.  One things for certain...I'm going to have to get a little steadier hand!  If you listen in the background, you can barely hear the other bay.

I like the footage Bryant, keep the clips coming.  That RR tie needs a game cam put on it, never know what might be coming through rubbing on that thing.  First hog down for 09', it's all gravy from here on out  Grin

Congratulations Bryant! The video was good - think you've got an angle too for not getting into that cold swamp to quickly too " hey guys - y'all go on ahead, I'll stay back here and film it..." :-)

No doubt, Tim!  They gave me a hard time later for not getting wet.  I had to explain how I actually had SACRIFICED not being right in the action in order to gain a little footage.  Sounded good anyway....

Joey-  I'm playing around with a Canon FS100.  So far, I really like it.  The video quality is excellent when played directly from the SD card or burned to a DVD, but I've been messing around with how much I can compress the files in order to reduce the file size without loosing too much quality in order to upload and share.  It's a really compact unit...perfect in my opinion for wagging around the woods.  It also takes nice still shots with the flip of a button.

Best Buy and Circuit City both have this camera reduced $100 right now to $299 however every Best Buy in this area was out of stock.  Had to drive to the CC in the next town over to find one.

I like the video! I have learned to bring several pair of clothes when we are hunting that place. I didn't realize we had that other bay. I assumed you were talking about one of my dogs. One of the Jagds were also bayed as well. The hogs give them fits in that water and guess they cant work as well.

I think I have figured out how to hunt that place. I will be holding my dogs back since they are small and open on the water. I'll cheat and catch the pigs piling out into the field.
